Hi everyone! I just joined the group because I found myself looking things up and reading posts on this site all the time, so figured I might as well join in.

I just adopted my baby Hazel (~7 months) from a rescue last Sunday. I love her so much but we are still getting used to each other.

I am a little stressed out about bonding with her. I want her to love me, but she doesn’t seem all the interested in me. Unless of course I have food! Even when I get down on the floor she doesn’t really come up to smell me or interact with me. She’s more interested in sniffing (and sometimes chewing) everything else. Maybe she’s just getting used to her surroundings?

Lately she has started growling at me sometimes, but not super frequently. Also, she absolutely refuses to let me pick her up. I know that most bunnies do not enjoy being picked up but it’s odd because her foster mom had no problems picking her up. Do you think it’s just a matter of getting comfortable with me? I’m trying very hard not to rush this process and to build her trust, but I am feeling a bit hopeless. How long does it usually take for buns to warm up to someone new?

The good thing is she absolutely LOVES being pet. She will let me pet her for hours. So at least there’s no problem there.

I still love her nonetheless, and I’m really hoping our relationship will get better over time.

Hi Hazel – found your thread Ooo a breed guessing game – we like these !!

She looks lovely and yes, it’s just about taking time to get to know you – she also may have been picked up in a certain way at Foster mum’s place… and she’s also coming into adolescence…. oh oh ! My girl started getting very territorial about 18 months old so (and for other reasons) I got her spayed, she has weeel calmed down a lot !!

She was a destined for meat bun…?
Well, looking at her face and colours she’s more of a Flemmie (Giant Flemish), but a photo with her sitting up so we can see her face and body would be good !!!
How much does she weigh now at 7 months (ish!)

She was spayed probably a month ago, but I’m waiting on the vet records from the rescue. So I guess we’ll just wait and see how she gets on after she gets used to her new surroundings.

She has some type of respiratory infection at the moment so I will be taking her to the vet tomorrow, and then I will find out her exact weight! I agree with you regarding her looking more like a flemish giant when lying down! I attached the only photo I have of her sitting up (she likes to nap haha). What do you think?

And yes, she and over 100 other rabbits that the rescue took in at the same time were being bred for meat in horrible conditions!

Well, LOL, she looks more like a Flemmie standing up too !!! LOL
Those ears !!! She’s gorgeous. And if she was spayed only a month ago her hormones are probably still going a bit bananas…

Hahaha you are right. I guess we’ll see how big she gets in the next few months!!

I just found out Hazel was spayed on August 10th. Quite a while ago! So I feel like her hormones would be calmed down by now?

                  Hi again Vienna Blue!

Just came from the vet, who herself has a Flemmie, and she is certain my Hazel is at least part Flemmie! She thinks she’s a cross, but that either way she’s going to be getting a lot bigger. I can’t wait to see how big she’ll get! I will have to do some reorganizing and make more space in her condo for her!

Yay !! a big bun family !! Lucky you. How much did she weigh?
What’s your condo set-up at the mo ? – it looks as if you’ve got some C&C cubes ? Do you have (reinforced? lol) levels or just a big ‘cube’ at the mo?

She weighs 3.34 kg, about 7 lbs! At only ~7 months old.
At the moment I have the cubes yes, with three levels (bottom floor and two upper levels). The condo is 3 squares long, 2 wide, and 3 tall. So I probably need to expand it a bit as she grows! She really seems to love it in there though.

Sounds great! Well you’ll get plenty of ideas on here if you need them – a lot of people have cube condos.

I wish I’d kept the weight records of Zou (in avatar photo) – I’m sure it was something around that… she’s a solid 6kg now. her length stayed the same, but her bum filled out in a very Kardashian way !

LOL that is a hilarious way of putting it, a Kardashian way. What breed is she?! She looks adorable, and wow that’s huge! What type of home do you keep her in, or is she free-roaming all the time?

She freeroams all the time (outside when I’m out (no predators here) and in when I’m in).

She is a Vienna Blue. Here is her ‘shape’ LOL.

Her nose and forehead fit nicely into my envelopping palm. My outstretched hand doesn’t even cover the top half of her rear !

I will be starting bonding (my first ever) in 3 weeks with her new boyfriend Henry weighing in at a much lighter 4kgs

Oh of course, how silly of me. I didn’t realize Vienna Blue was a breed.
Oh my goodness she’s huge! So cute. Wow good luck with the bonding!! How exciting.
