Welcome to Binky bunny! I’m sure that your bun is very lucky to have found a home with people in it that have joined Binky bunny. I know when i first got my first bun, i barely knew anything about bunnies. (Long story) If you have any questions, let me know, because i have been through the whole learning process myself. Sounds like youre off to a good start with bonding, though!

I am a new mommy too! I have actually been reading this site for over a week since I got her. Just finding time to upload her picture and join. I have been a nervous wreck since I got her. Is she eating enough? Are her poops ok? Is she hunched? The list can go on. This coming thursday will be my 2 full week having. Everyday I have questions. The GI stasis is what worries me so much. I introduced her to a lot of new foods and treats the day I got her, until I started reading this site. She was really eating a lot when I got her but she seems to be slowing down. I don’t know if it is normal or not. I have those infant gas meds on hand. I am just so grateful for this site.

I know there are a lot of posts on the same things, but my nerves and patience is getting to me on where to post. I got Bella a little over 2 weeks ago and I have been a nervous wreck. This site is helping a lot.
Some questions….
She isn’t eating many pellets anymore. Her previous owner gave her only pellets, walmart kind, and no timothy hay. Well the night I got her, I ran and got some toys and treats. I was giving her bits of tomatos that night too. Now, researching I know now I should of done it slower. So now I have 2 kinds of pellets, timothy hay, and some sort of timothy hay and herb mix. I mix a heaping bowl of everything with the main part being timothy hay. I don’t really think she is eating many if any pellets. Is this dangerous? I have gas meds on hand. Her poops look fine. She is drinking. She seems really happy. Just a few territory nips but nothing major.
When to clip her nails?
Bonding after spaying? I want to get her a rabbit friend. How much of an age difference can there be? I don’t want to attempt before she gets spayed.
So far she seems healthy, I checked her rear, eys, and nose and make sure she is drinking and eating. My only real concern is her not eating the pellets like she used too, and a little less hay as well.

What’s the best advice for raising a baby/young rabbit? Some hurdles to expect etc?

My Baxter was supposed to be a female, Ruby. Not sure if they truly didn’t know, or they just wanted to get an un-neutered male off their hands!

We were able to see Baxter’s junk dangling if we watched him running around (especially if we were on the floor). I read that depending on the rabbit, they can be hidden up inside them, so it definitely can be hard to know without a professional. Without the testes, the lady/male bits look SUPER similar. I think either way, you’ll have a great pet I’ve avoided male pets so far in life, but I have no complaints other than when he tried to mount me the first week… haha.

Do start her on potty-training right away! It’s not stressful, it’s exploiting a natural behavior. They don’t potty in their “homes” in the wild, because that leads predators to them. Birds can see colors in the ultraviolet range, so hawks can see bunny pee from far up in the sky.
The sooner you start the training the better. You will probably not be completely successful before your bun is de-sexed and healed, but that’s because an intact rabbit has an urge to poop-mark, but if you teach him/her where poop and pee should go, he/she will be better at it once the urge to mark is gone.

In regards to gender and what to look for with male bits. They’re not furred, so they’ll be a nice bright pink. They can retract them into little pouches in the fur, so you may not see them when you look unless you gently press and spread the area. He/she is such a gorgeous bunny.

Litter training is fairly easy with rabbits, easier again once spayed/neutered but you shouldn’t have too much trouble. The best way to get on top of it is to restrict the size of the space she has access to, as it’s easier to train in a smaller space than a larger one. Once her habits improve you can slowly increase the space. How is your litter box set up? Do you have hay above/in the litter box for her to feed on while she’s in there? Bunnies love to eat while they poop I don’t recommend diapering, not only do you risk her chewing it and ingesting material than could potentially be dangerous to her, but you need to be able to monitor the poops. A soft poop would also easily get stuck in the fur this way and there is the potential for urine scald if not changed often enough. One more thing on that also is that bunnies produce two types of poops, regular poops and cecal poops. The cecal poops are mainly produced at night but they’re re-ingested straight away for nutrients (kind of like a cow chewing the cud) and they can’t eat their cecal poops if they have a diaper on.

Absolutely in agreement with Az (“comme d’habituuuuuuude !”) a smaller space getting bigger for potty training – they are like cats and very clean, so in a small space they will choose the same place. Then when they are regular and you make it bigger, they should go back to it (from all over the house though some people put several litter trays down).

If you find she’s going in the same place which is not the litter, then move the tray to suit the buns preference. They are trainable but are still quite set in their ways….
