Hello everyone,
I had been meaning to join a bunny owners forum for awhile now, and I finally got around to it this morning. About a year ago my partner and I adopted a female, miniature lop from a friend of a friend. Unfortunately, we were told that she didn’t get along well with their other rabbits. Since we had no pets, and had talked about getting a house rabbit before, we thought it was a great opportunity. The previous owner didn’t let us know what they had named her so after a few days we decided to name her: Inga.
The previous owners said she was about two at the time we adopted her. She was not spayed at the time of adoption, but I quickly set up a veterinary appointment to at least get some information on her weight and overall health. Also the veterinarian gave me an idea of what diet to feed her, and information that un-spayed females have a high risk of developing respective cancers. A week later she had the surgery and came out just fine, but the real battle was with the cone she had to wear for the next 10+ days. She hated the cone, and when I would take it off to clean it or she would slip it off somehow, it was a really rough time trying to get it back on:

Even after the cone was off it still took her quite some time to bond with us. She is rather independent, and even now still dislikes being picked up. We only really pick her up if its necessary (nail clipping, for example). I think she realizes we are the bringers of food and the cleaners of her cage so she generally is happy to see us and loves having her head rubbed. Her cage is out in our living area and we let her out of her cage when we are around. She doesn’t get into much trouble, but we don’t let her out while she’s bunsupervised.
Other than meeting other riveting rabbit owners, I think my goal in joining this forum is to find out more fun ways to communicate with my rabbit. She doesn’t seem interested in toys much, at least the ones we’ve tried. Regardless, she seems really content and seems to show more and more affection as time goes on. We love the heck out of the little fluff ball! <3

Awww, looks like she’s going through a molt-a-thon! Inga looks very sweet. Def. a fluff-ball. She might just be more of a hugs-on-the-floor gal. Yeah, both my rabbits aren’t too keen on toys, and are like tobyluv’s buns. My rabbits love decimating fresh willow sticks (not the store bought ones), so maybe try that as an activity. My buns LOVE the Binky Bunny cottage.
I’ve had Crysta for 8 months now, and she’s only just started to allow me to groom her head. It just takes time. I would recommend just sitting on the floor and observing Inga do her thing. You will learn so much just from observing her body language from afar. She will show you what she likes, as much as what she dislikes!

I second the gentle plucking. My Chewie has recently decided that brushes and combs are for wimps, so he refuses to let me near him with one (or a lint roller lol). I’ve had to resort to plucking him like a chicken when he comes to me for attention. Which, luckily, is very frequently.
Inga is one good little girl to let you brush her bum when she’s moulting (buns’ skin is more sensitive during moults).
