Greetings! My name is Nemo and I share my one-bedroom apartment with my husband, our two cats, a chinchilla, a hamster, a bearded dragon, a betta fish and most recently, two baby bunnies.
My first experience with rabbits wasn’t a good one: my grandma got me a rabbit when I was very young and all I remember was that it smelled and would never let me pet it or hold it without getting scratched up! The memories must have stuck with me because when Aaron and I set out to grow our furry family, rabbits weren’t something I ever considered.
And then about a month ago, my friend’s rabbit had a litter of babies and as soon as I laid eyes on that squirming pile of fur, I was hooked. That same weekend we went out and got our first bunny, a little boy Holland Lop named Pikachu. He’s about six months old (getting neutered next month) and has the quirkiest, most lovable personality of any pet I’ve ever owned. The first thing he does in the morning is wait by his food bowl for breakfast, sitting on his hind legs with his cute lil’ front paws up in a begging position. And that’s the first thing he does when he hears me come home in the evening because he knows it’s time for some veggies!
We had such a good experience with Pikachu that I decided to get him a friend. That’s when we stumbled across a tiny little black and white Netherland Dwarf doe. Two month old Raichu is a little shyer than her older brother but we’re noticing every day that she’s getting more and more curious and less afraid of the hands reaching into her cage.
Right now they are in separate cages, until we get Pikachu neutered, because even though I’m already a slave to my two new bunnies I don’t need any surprise litters sneaking up on me! Seriously though, these little rabbits have completely stolen my heart and I am so glad to have them as part of my furry family.
Pictures to follow soon!
