Hi there,
I have just found your website (after googling bunny bellies haha) and am excited to be able to join your forum. Have checked out the sticky threads so hopefully I don’t make a mistake.
I have two ratbag rabbits whom I absolutely adore! (in my avatar you can see them)
The opal (grey) Netherland dwarf’s name is officially Alfie but he has such a cantankerous nature that he has been permanently nicknamed ‘Grumpy’. He is just on two years old and as you bunny owners would know, he is continually showing his personality as well as getting used to me holding him (if you rub his head then stop, he will nudge up against you). I got him because my gorgeous Otter Netherland dwarf, Pipkin, passed away suddenly a couple of years ago. I was wrecked with sadness over him (as was my father, I never seen the man cry before!) and contacted the breeder to ask if anything might have caused him to be seemingly healthy one day and to pass away the next. This was the wrong thing to do! I was told I had killed him because of the lettuce I fed him, but I could not convince her that I had NOT fed him iceberg…. heh anyway as you can see, I am past that. It could have been a digestive problem he had, but I will never know. I just think of the beautiful nature little Pip had. Plus he was an absolute stunner!
My little Grumpy became mad and destructive because I had to move house (his free-range of my house had to cease when I moved into a new place). So after much thought, I got a ‘mate’ for him. That’s Tilly in my avatar. She is a Japanese harlequin mini-lop. She is a frantic girl who has doubled Grumps’ size since I got her in January this year. She is settling down a lot as well and though it took a fair bit of work to bond them, they are inseparable now. When I told my friends I was ‘supervising the play of my two rabbits’, you can imagine the looks I got! They are both neutered. I had Grumps done because he was spraying everywhere (nice!) and Tilly because I’d read about the possibly of ovarian cancer. She has been spayed for a while now but is still displaying her desire to mate with my Netherland’s head haha. I’m not sure what to do about that!
I love them both to bits and just spent a hour with them using me as a jumping castle haha! I hope they are happy, I think they are. They love snuggling up together or with my old ginge cat.
Anyway, thanks! I look forward to reading and posting
