Hello! Just wanted to introduce our new bunny, Pumpkin. Some of you may remember me from a few years back when we had our bunny Boston (username was Allenj1); she went through a terrible case of head tilt and you guys all helped me nurse her back to health. Unfortunately she passed away in 2011, but my husband and I just bought a house and have decided to add to bunny to our lives again.
When we got Boston, we had no idea what we were doing. We bought her as a baby from a pet store with no prior bunny knowledge whatsoever! That poor little bun would have never made it without all of your guidance!
I feel like we knew what we were getting ourselves into this time around. We adopted Pumpkin from the Humane Society and she is about a year and a half old. We are still trying to figure her out, but I think she spent most of her life in her cage with minimal food supply in a home full of loud noises. She is super territorial with her cage and her food and every little noise sends her running back to her cage. She prefers to spend her time in her litter box, with her butt facing us!. She has her own bed room and if we leave her cage open for 10 hours, she will spend 8 in the cage. We are slowly integrating her into the rest of our house and our hope is that she will have the run of the house whenever we are home.
Pumpkin loves to snuggled; when you get close to her she immediately melts into you for head rubs; she is just really sweet! Tonight I was feeding her pellets and she snorted and batted them out of my hand! I think she felt bad though, because then she hopped in my lap and refused to leave. It’s take a little while, but I’m happy she’s starting to warm up to us and her new environment. Here’s a few pics–one of them of her with the pumpkins we carved tonight. They look like the bodyguards of her cage! We put them outside after the photo op because she was trying to eat them!
