Hi everyone! I just got my first bunny boy about a week ago and I’m really enjoying him! My family lost our 16 year old dog last February and I had been searching and searching for a dog for my mom. Then, 8 days ago, I was looking on craigslist and saw that a lot of people were selling bunnies for really cheap, so I thought “why not?” On Monday, June 8, I got Orion, a hand-raised 6 month old black tortie mini lop.
I did as much research as I could before I got him, and I still have plenty to learn, but so far, he’s doing great! Right now he’s in an old ferret cage that’s tall enough to have different levels, so I built him a loft that he loves! It allows him to look out the window into a big green yard. I ordered him an x pen which will be here next week.
I’ve definitely got “new parent syndrome”. I’m so paranoid about every tiny thing with him. Yesterday I noticed that he only pooped in his litterbox once all day, and the day before I had given him a few raisins. I stay weekends out on a ranch where I keep my horse, so my mom takes care of the animals at home at that time. Last night I was worrying myself to bits that he had GI stasis, but today I ran home to check on him, and he had used his litter box to its full extent. XD Until his xpen arrives, I’ve been taking him into the bathroom and watching him closely so he doesn’t get into anything. He’s already hopping onto my lap and letting me pet him, and today when I held him against my chest, he purred!

Today I let him hop around the house and explore a little (closely watched). He’s also been enjoying fresh timothy grass from the garden at the ranch. It’s MUCH tastier than the old dry stuff in a bag, he says!I was wondering, does anyone ever take their bunnies places? I’m thinking about taking him with me sometimes on weekends and setting up a playpen for him to live in on the ranch. He seems pretty calm and curious about new things, so I would hope it wouldn’t be too stressful for him.
Also, he’s getting neutered in a couple of weeks.
