I wasn’t really planning on getting a second rabbit, though I did want Gremlin to have a pal. Then one of the teens at my school got a rabbit on the spur of the moment (…Easter time, go figure…), then after a week or so realized how much work they are and suddenly didn’t have enough time. So, I agreed to take her. She is a mini-Rex, I’m not too sure of her age, but hopefully was at least 8 weeks when she was sold around Easter-time, so maybe around 13 weeks now?? I’ve had her for a couple weeks now, and she is probably the fastest rabbit I’ve ever had, her zoomies are fun to watch! It’s dangerous when I’m laying down though, because she will run around the room and jump up on the bed (ran across my face once…) and back down again over and over.
I had to take the frame off my bed so it’s low enough I’m not worried about my buns getting hurt. When I had Gremlin out, he was worrying me jumping up and down since he is such a little guy (it was pretty high off the floor). I named her Mei-Mei (Chinese for ‘Little Sister’). Gremlin is going to hate me after tomorrow (neuter appt), because he would much rather have a wife.
She is obviously not spayed since she is too young…to be honest I’m not sure if I want to get her spayed (I’m a bit nervous about Grem’s surgery tomorrow as it is). I know I will have to wait 2-4 weeks after the neuter before I could bond them…or if I should plan on getting her spayed and if so, should just keep them apart until she is old enough for that? I feel bad doing that, because Gremlin hasn’t had a buddy to play with since I’ve had him, and he is very excited about her, and is getting frustrated that they are not allowed together..jpg)

Oh what a sweet little bun!
Definitely wait until they are both altered (and probably about a month after that for hormones to dissipate), they can’t really be bonded until she’s spayed. Another thing to think about, un-spayed female bunnies have an 85% chance of getting uterine cancer by the age of 4 so spaying not only allows for bonding it is pretty necessary for a female bun to maintain good health.
Female bunnies are usually spayed at about 6 months of age, sometimes a vet will do it earlier but I’ve read that it can stunt their development so it might be best to wait. Maybe discuss it with you vet when you take in Gremlin!
Don’t feel bad about keeping them separate. It’s the best thing for them at this point. Congrats on the new baby. She’s very sweet looking.

Yeah, the cancer and hormones are pretty big issues to think about in the long run. It’s just hard to watch him have to wait so long, poor guy!
I haven’t been able to talk with the new vet yet, but the receptionist did not seem very open to spaying the female when I mentioned that…so when it is her time I may end up going back to my old vet (2 hours away) unless I can find another vet around here who is more confident handling rabbits.
Anyhow, thanks, she is a very nice bun, and I can actually hold her unlike my Gremlin, lol. She has nipped a bit, but that’s been slowing down the more confidence she gets…so we’ll find out just how sweet she ends up being.

Your new bun is ABSOLUTELY STUNNING! I love her colour and am very partial to Mini-Rex’s.
They have such wonderful personalities. I would find a vet you are comfortable with and get her spayed. Bonding will be very difficult with a hormone crazed doe. Gremlin would probably be content with having her housed beside him until they are ready to bond.
