I have three bunnies. The pair are Netherland dwarf mixes. I adopted them in 2009, and they were between one and two years of age at the time. The rescue group thought they might have be brother and sister, but they weren’t sure. The boy (neutered) is named Sasha, and the girl (spayed) is named Daisy. The spare is a mini-rex named Topaz. I adopted him in 2004. He was bonded with a female mini-rex mix named Cecile, but after she died, he was getting lonely. He decided he liked Sasha and Daisy at a bunny speed dating night, and the rescue volunteer had them spend a few days with her to get them bonded.
They get along well. Topaz is getting to be an older bunny – since he’s nine. He has cataracts, and e.cunniculi, so he sometimes runs around in circles. But since he eats well and plays enthusiastically with a rattle, I think he’s happy. Daisy and Sasha will groom him (sometimes overgroom him), so I tell them it’s not nice to chew holes in their friend, and I tell Topaz he doesn’t have to put up with it. But nothing changes, so I swab him with dilute betadine if there’s any scratches, and that seems to help.
I found this board when I was looking for what to do about the hay that gets all over my carpets. I tracked down a shop vac, and it seems to be effective. The hay kept clogging up my other vacuum, (there is a little kink where the big pieces get caught), so I think this will be good.
Pictures to come later.
