Just thought I’d introduce myself since I’ve been visiting this site on and off since this summer. (We fostered a bunny over the summer and I was always coming here for information).
After much thought and discussion my husband and I finally made the decision to get a rabbit of our own. This is his second rabbit (he had one as a child) and my first. It took us a while to make the decision because we are both allergic (a recent development for him) and weren’t sure if it was a good idea as we suffered most of the summer with the bunny we fostered.
A friend of mine ended up with a litter(is that the right word for bunnies?) of 7 by accident (long story) and we finally decided to take one. He is an adorable little guy and healthy according to our vet.
Meet our little Dexter:

We were fortunate enough to take him for a “test drive” for a week to see how we reacted. Fortunately because he is shorter haired (our summer bunny was a lop) our allergies aren’t too bad. We’ve had him for about 3 weeks now and he is just the most precious thing. Very loveable and enjoys being pet and played with. Just ordered the mini Haven and the bunny brunch box which he should enjoy.
Right now we are feeding him timothy pellets and alfalfa hay. I’m waiting on an order oat hay and orchard grass and I’ll start weaning him off the alfalfa and onto a mix of the other two. (We are trying to avoid timothy hay due to allergies). We will also start slowly introducing veggies at 12 weeks. Any feedback on his current diet would be appreciated, its always good to get differing opinions. We are also planning to have him fixed at 6 months. (We have a vet that specializes in exotics so we are fortunate there).
Anyway, thanks for reading if you’ve made it all the way to the end
I hope to continue to share our little guy’s stories and read all the other bunnies!!
