I have been looking through these archives for some time now. I happened upon the site around 6 months ago.
Samson (Sammy Davis Jr) showed up at the back door where I work(around March 2011). He never left the property, leading me to believe that he was discarded by someone. We fed him, but no one stepped forward to claim him. Finally in June, it was getting too hot. This bunny was a survivor and deserved a better home. I scooped him up and took him to a reccomended rabbit vet. She said he was around 5months old. I scheduled an appointment to get him neutered, and brought him home. He was very skinny. I didn’t know how to care for a bunny. I went to the pet store and bought a lot of needless junk. You can easily waste a lot of money if you’re not careful. I researched many websites, and came across this one. I built him an NIC condo, fairly easily.
I didn’t have the time to spend with this young rabbit, so I took him to the local NSPCA to find a companion. We saw 7 rabbits before settling on a real shy, skittish bunny named Delilah(2 years old). I guess it was meant to be because they hit it off. I brought them both home, and set up an xpen for the new bunny. It was an instant bonding session. He chased her around the xpen, jumping in and out of the litter box. She grunted at him a few times and thumped twice at him. Then he mounted her, flopped on his side, and she just started licking him. They’ve been best friends ever since.
She’s still quite skittish, however it’s been a night and day difference since she came home. She’s starting to jump and play a little more. Sammy is the king of the house, but Delilah is twice as smart as he is. She’ll outwit him every time.
