I just got a bunny yesterday. A lionhead, with real light tan fur. Super soft.
We’ve had bunnies in the past, a lop ear that got awful large when I was little. Not sure why we gave him away…I was to young…I should ask sometime.
We also had a couple what I call ‘basic bunnies’ they have the short hair, one was black, one was gray and one was speckled. They were all outside bunnies and ‘owned’ by my little siblings who never took care of them and we thought were better off at a different home.
Well 3 years later I’ve decided I’d like a bunny. I got Rayne from Craigslist, she is a lionhead and I was told is about 6 months old.
She’s so adorable. I was told she responds to her name but hasn’t shown signs of that yet. But I’m sure she’s still adjusting so we’ll see. Doesn’t really like to be held and cuddled, but loves to run around and be pet. Her cage is currently in my room, but we’ll see how long that lasts. She’s terrified of the dark and goes bonkers…so sleeping is a little hard for me at night.
Oh, my name is Lydia, I’m a senior in highschool and I compete in gymnastics as well as coach gymnastics. We have one dog, a small one, a poodle terrier mix. And one hermit crab.
Welcome
I had a rabbit when I was small as well, but now I’ve had my Chacha bun for almost 2 years.. she is my responsibility and it is a lot of fun to be with her
As for being held and cuddles, rabbits don’t really like to be held. They are prey animals and think us humans are out to eat them
Bunnies are also very active at night, so you may have a hard time sleeping!!
Welcome to the world of bunnydom!! Pretty soon, your bunny will OWN you ![]()
Thanks for the reply!!
I’d consider myself new at bunny owning for the most part so any suggestions would be helpful.
The previous owner kept 2-3 toilet paper rolls in her cage at all times and she LOVES chewing them up, but I think she’s eating them as well…so I’m going to see if I can find something else for her to chew as I don’t want her to have a stomach full of toilet paper rolls.
She really loves chewing in general and digging at the carpet. Like won’t stop doing either. So I’m leary about letting her out in my (or any for that matter) room to run. I do make a ‘playpen’ of sorts in the back yard for her and that works fine for now…but the snow is coming in.
Oh yes! BB is the first place that I found when I was a new bunny owner as well! Everyone has been so helpful with advice
I believe that toilet paper rolls with the paper is fine.. I am not 100% sure. My dad has given my bunny an entire roll once and she went at it! Also, cardboard boxes (without tape or glue) with cut out holes is a great, cheap toy
For the carpet, I would advise perfume or bitter apple spray. My rabbit dislikes the smell of it and hops away. This morning, my dad heard my bunny chewing at the carpet in the apartment. He went to look for her and she heard him, backed out of the spot where she was (he was amused by her lol!) and gave him the “I didn’t do it!!” look.
I still have one of my bunnies I had since childhood (her cage mate passed away a few weeks ago). I’m 19 now.
I agree, buns tend to not like to be held. Domino hated being held but tolerated it. Nava could careless, but she is very calm and is relaxed.
Paper towel rolls should be fine. Nava doesnt care for them much, but my female rats like to rip them apart. Haha.
another fun toy you can do with the tp rolls or I use papertowel rolls because then there’s no reminents of paper on them is taking hay, twisting it, folding it in half and that makes it easy to stick in both ends of the roll and its sticking out. my rabbit loved that. He loves home-made toys. Like chacha said, boxes are good too since its ok if they ingest cardboard. Mine also likes to shred newspaper and after he’s shredded a few pages I’ll stick them in a box closed and one end and he’ll dig.
Oh and welcome!
I’m kinda new here too but I really like this place so you will probably too!
Welcome!
Hope you have fun getting to know your new bunny! Distractions work great at night so the bunnies will be entertained and you can get some sleep. This place is great, when I got a rabbit for the first time I googled a question and BB popped up.
I have been doing gymnastics since I started at age 2 (: I’m a junior in high school ;P Nice to see another gymnast here!
Welcome
Finally got a picture of Rayne! It’s not the best, I can’t find my cord for my camera so this was on my phone at the last minute.
She loves that leash!
He’s really cute, but is that a collar or a harness? It’s really dangerous to put a collar on your bunny. If they decide to struggle they can easily break their neck or back. Some people don’t even recommend putting a harness on them, but that’s much safer then a collar.
Aww! rayne is SOOO CUTE!!! AWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!AAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWW!!!!!!AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW! DAW! lol
D
It’s definitely a harness and it fits quite well on her, not to tight at all. In the picture it does look like a collar, but it’s not for sure. I know you’re not supposed to put those on a bunny…plus I think they’d just slip off of her anyway.
Usually it is recommended to neither put a collar or harness on a rabbit. But it’s not like a rule or anything

Ah I see, well I’ll try to stray away from it then. I’m in the midst of building a ‘pen’ type of thing outside for her to run around in when I’m out there. But until then the leash was the only thing I had to let her play outside.
Heya, welcome to BB!
Building a pen is a good idea
there’s some really good ideas on those in the Habitat and Toys section here. Mocha200 made a really cool one.
