        Hello!

I am a new bunny owner. I must say that I never truly realised how amazing rabbits were. I recently adopted a rabbit for therapy purposes. My daughter has several health conditions and the doctor suggested that I consider a pet. Due to my daughter’s health condition, most animals appear very fast and unpredictable. If she sees a dog or cat, she could get so stressed out, that she would seizure. She has had health issues since 19 weeks gestation ( she is 3 1/2 now). I finally decided on a rabbit. So we adopted! It hasn’t even been a week and my daughter’s health has improved! Seizures have gone down by 80 percent and she even finished potty training as a game to see who, her or BonBon, would be  litter/potty trained first! The good our BonBon has done is priceless! I’ve fallen in love with rabbits and so has my daughter. BonBon was originally for therapy but she has snuggled her way into our hearts and has become a member of our family!

I don’t have any HQ pictures of her yet, however I have one taken by her previous owner.

        Name: BonBon

        Breed: Mini Rex

        Age: 5 months

        Gender: Doe

Welcome! She looks a lot like my Stickers, only difference is her head is a lot darker than my girl. Glad she was able to help your daughter, they really are sweet hearts.

Welcome! That is such an awesome story I got my rabbit for therapy reasons too. My mom passed away and I did not want to be alone. My bunny has also bought lots of sunshine into my life!

                Thanks everyone!

I know my daughter is not the only one to benefit. She is hitting that stage where everyone is more interesting than me. So at least the bunny snuggles me. I know she snuggles a lot but can anyone give me pointers on how to gain her trust. I want to build a solid relationship with BonBon. I am currently growing herbs. I know she likes oregano and rosemary.

Just let the bunny be herself Just do the ‘bunny ignore’ which is just sit on the floor, and do something like read or nap. Bunnies are naturally curious creatures, so they will check everything around them lol. It can take a while

Have you looked into getting her spayed? From your post, she is 5 months old. She may become a ball of hormones until she is spayed It will calm her down.

Not many of the vets here are experienced with spaying/neutering rabbits and the ones that are keep saying that if she is the only rabbit in the house that it wont change much. She inst an angry bunny at all, but i’ve checked prices and info to have her spayed. I have already chosen the clinic which I’d have it done at. So my question is: Will it make a difference if she is the only rabbit in the house? I don’t know anyone around who has one so odds of her coming in contact with another are slim.

                      Weclome (: She is adorable!

Unfortunately for females it makes a great deal of difference, even if they are the only rabbit in the household. Unspayed females have an 85% chance of developing uterine cancer at an early age (also ovarian and mammory cancer, which is virtually eliminated once spayed, which is why they remove both uterus and ovaries). Once she hits maturity the potty habits you’ve worked so hard on she will most likely forget. Females also can have false pregnancies, which is where they believe they’re pregnant for no reason but will start pulling out fur to make a nest, become aggressive towards you and others, and have a reduced appetite which can cause GI stasis. My lop just reached about 5 1/2 to 6 months old and she began peeing outside her litter box and now she has a habit of biting me for what feels like no apparent reason. Her spay is this Monday. Of course, it’s your decision, since you say that there aren’t many rabbit savvy vets in your area they won’t really have the right information on them (a rabbit savvy vet would know to push a spay for those reasons above). For more information: http://www.rabbit.org/faq/sections/spay-neuter.html (tells you how to find a rabbit savvy vet and more about spays).

I’ve got one rabbit and she is a female Indeed, it is a good thing to do. My rabbit was a ball of hormones at 5 months and I couldn’t wait until she was spayed. She is a lot more calm, has more attitude and is laid back, .. all at the same time, haha.

So pretty! I love the name too.

There’s a little on pre/post neuter care in the the House Rabbit Society (HRS) acticle linked in bunnyfriends post. ^ Scroll down to the bottom. It does mention giving acidophilus. Not sure if that info is still current… It certainly doesn’t hurt to give it’s but not absolutely necessary.

                                    Oh! I didn’t see that! thanks! <3

My mother is completely against spaying her. She says she is far too pretty and that her offspring would be as well. I told her that I don’t plan on breeding to sell and if I did breed her I would have to have enough space and be able to care for all of them for their lifespan. I told her I had no plan on doing so and I will not be giving any off to people I don’t know. Seeing that I won’t have space for them for a few years…I won’t be breeding her. I am determined to spay her not only to ensure no offspring, but for her to live a long and healthy life. One day when I get my dream home in the country, if I want a lot of rabbits, then instead of breeding I will rescue.

Haha yes, baby bunnies are so cute I can understand why it’s tempting. I totally commend you for sticking with the spay (: She’ll live longer and be the best companion to you that she can. Oh I live on a farm and I too want a home in the country when I’m ready! It’s so peaceful

                                        Hi!

I’m so glad you found your way to Binky Bunny! I haven’t been online in a few days, but I’m usually here everyday.

BonBon is beautiful. What a cute name for her.

All of my 3 bunnies are spayed or neutered. There is only 1 vet in our area who knows a lot about rabbits and she’s the only 1 I trust with mine. She’s wonderful. You can “Private Message” me and I’ll give you her clinic address, if you like.

It is hard to stay determined though, because I am worried about the risks involved. However; after all the reading I feel more at ease doing it.

Hi littlepuffytail! Long time no see! My daughter, Abby, chose the name after a movie. “little nemo”. ( the character was introducing herself as I asked Abby what we should call her. She took it as a sign. I pmed you, so looking forward to the reply!
