Well, “Rookie” is the best word I have heard yet for our new adventure.

Hi, My name is Ashley, I live with my Husband and 2 yr old son in the Heart of the blue ridge mountains. We have an old Boston Terrier, Madilyn, and a sweet rabbit, Lula. How we came to be rabbit owners, is a long story. My parents had intended on getting my son a pet bunny, but there cats tend to bring small critters, including wild baby bunnies, home on a daily basis. So, not the smartest idea to bring one home and expect the cats not to “attack” or “stalk” the rabbit. So, I talked my Mom out of the idea. Well, this summer was hard on us as a family. After a long uphill battle with infertility, I got pregnant only to find that it was ectopic and I ruptured, had surgery, lost the baby, lost my Right ovary and tube, had a difficult recovery, blah blah blah. So, my Mom was trying to get me out of the house in August and I went to run some errands with her. We went to the country feed store for chicken scratch and they had a little 5 month old bunny, it was free. I was against the idea and told my Mom that we needed a rabbit as bad as I needed a hole in my head… she said, “it would take my mind off of everything and would be good for my son”. So we are now proud owners of a rabbit. I have no idea what kind she is, but we love her. However, I now realize that bunnies are more like dogs and nothing like overgrown hamsters. They take a lot of attention to control behaviors, diet, and general health. We are learning as we go and are always looking for constructive suggestions. She is now apart of the family and really has made us realize that we need to be more responsible about pet ownership… not that we would ever harm a living creature, but we were not fully informed by the gentlemen at the store when we brought her home. Can’t wait to dive into the forum and get lots of good info!!

Welcome here. I’m looking forward to hearing more about your new bunny. They are definitely more than overgrown hamsters, they make fantastic family pets and require a fair amount of attention and time.

I’m very sorry to hear about your recent health problems. I hope you are on the mend now.

Thank you for the sympathy. I am finding that Lula has been a major part of my healing experience. She has an amazing spirit and is so loving. She is gentle and fun loving… she is just what the Dr ordered, or at least the Dr would have if they were a bunny owner. Lula makes things seem sunnier, for the entire family.

The reason why I searched for this site and joined, is because I want to pay Lula back by being a great bunny guardian by making sure she is healthy and happy and getting all the love she deserves, and treats.

Sorry to hear about the loss and pain you have been through. And yes bunnies are definatly better then any overgrown hampster. They each have thier personalities. Some comedians, some sooo cute, others are little devils lol. Welcome to being a bunny slave!!! By the way dont forget to share some pics!

I’m sorry for your recent difficulties and hope the future is much brighter for you. It will be, with your little bunny. So glad she is just what the doctor ordered. You sound like a fantastic bunny mommy and I wish you a long happy union with your bunny. Can’t wait to see pics of her!

                      WELCOME

I lost my dear mother to Ovarian Cancer in Dec 2009, and I got Chacha bun in Jan 2010. She has forever changed my life, and has helped me cope with many things. I understand – animals are such great companions
