Just wanted to say hi, “Hi!” I haven’t brought my bun home yet..still getting things in order.
This will be my first bun I’ve had in a few years. Been keeping parakeets but family member developed allergies to feathers ![]()
Anywho the bunny I’m bringing home is a lionhead(maybe mix not 100% sure), one of my boss’s. She’s about a year old maybe a little bit younger. She’s of a broken color..I want to say blue but will post pics once I bring her home and have ya’ll take a guess
I do have a question. Today while handling her she did feel pretty thick in the tummy. Now my boss does have the gents and ladies seperated but there was a time they were all in together.
How long is their gestation? She could just be a bit over-weight but knowing my luck I’ll bring her home and be suprised by a litter a week later.
I plan to get her fixed asap but if she is prego should I wait? I know that sounds horrid to ask but I know a lot of shelters/vets around here will terminate a litter while being altered.
She’s a little flighty but they’ve been hutch raised w/ lil handling. Even then she can be picked up and cuddled and wont tear or try to jump out of your arms.
Now I’m rambling…
Look forward to your input
Hi and welcome to Binkybunny
The issue with keeping the sexes seperated is – you never know if they are 100% male or female.. even a breeder makes mistakes and things can happen. If the rabbit that you are getting is indeed pregnant, an emergency spay can be done. The gestation period is 30 days.
Female rabbits show chubbyness by their dewlap, or, a double chin.
Rabbits are going to be skiddish, some remain that way. Others will change. I’m happy to hear that you plan to get her spayed!
Let us know if you have any other questions ![]()
How soon do the does developed their dewlaps? I messed w/ all the bunnies today and the boys section definately had dropped their testies. The bunny I’m interested didn’t show any testies nor did anything “pop out” when I checked.
Not to say she isn’t a he or vice versus. Like you said even breeders/vets make mistakes sometimes.
Being a lionhead he/she really fluffy under chin so couldn’t see dewlap plus bunny didn’t cake for throat/chin area being messed with and I didn’t want to over stress bunny.
Dewlaps develop between 6 and 12 months.
Well he/she should be about 8 months old so I’ll check for a dewlap tomorrow and try to sex him/her again. Either way the bun will be getting fixed by our local vet who specializes in small animals and exotics. Spay and neuter are only 4 dollars different and luckily aren’t all that expensive(lot less than I was expecting).
Hi, Welcome! Remember, we like pictures ![]()
Hi welcome to the forum. I can understand your delema. When I got Nibblette my youngest bun wew thought he was a she untill he started humping everything and his little boy part showed lol. and got him fixed just after he matured.

Hi, Welcome! Remember, we like pictures![]()
I will get them posted as soon as bunny is home.
Should I let bunny get settled in at my place for a week or two before I take him/her to vet for spay/neuter? Also can you use horse dewormer on rabbits(much smaller dose of coarse)? What about baths? I don’t like having to do it but she smells a bit pissy.
I usually dont give mine a bath but I do once in a great while. I got some bunny shampoo from my vet really cheap it was only $3 and smells good. he said that a bath once every couple of months dont hurt, but not to bath them all the time. My two are so clean anyways they rarely smell.LOL Mr. Hopper is one of the cleanest buns I ever owned. It could be you new buns old enviornment. as for how long before you get them fixed I am not sure, we had Nibblette when he was about 6 weeks old and he was about 5 months when he got fixed.

You don’t need to bathe your rabbits at all… they do not smell, and they are clean creatures by habit. I believe that they groom themselves more than cats. Bathing can potentially do a lot more harm for your rabbits than good ![]()
the only reason Mr. Hopper got a bath in that pic was cause Nibblette got to friendly with Mr. Hopper’s head and left yellowish stains on his fur.from what I was told that they could get sick very easily from getting baths.
It’s a cute picture :~) He looks very disapproving.
Ya he was angry at me for taking him out of the tub. He loves playing in the water.
Really? My 1st bunny, Lash, was always almost frantic to get out of the water, keep trying to leap up to my chest from the water, if I didn’t have my hand firmly against her spine restraining her. It could have something to do with that I bathed her in the bathroom vanity sink, though which was sloped and didn’t allow her to get any footing. Next time I bathe a rabbit I’ll have to try it in the tub! That’s great that your bun loves to play in the water, and I would think, makes bathing him easier.
Well I brought bunny home. Actually brought a boy bunny home. The one I liked so also my boss’s daughters favorite so I didn’t take her. I would post a pic but seeing forum is being wonky guess ya’ll have to wait ![]()
yaay how exciting! can’t wait to meet him! ![]()
Drum roll please……
Introducing GYPSY the lionhead/mix!

Oh my gosh I want to steal her!! She is so fluffy and adorable!
she is absolutely adorable! you’re so lucky ![]()
Totally cute
Very cute fluffy bunny!
Gypsy is so cute! I love how she looks like she just got out of bed.<3
Thank you everyone. Gypsy is actually a he.. I know not a very manly name but I’m stuck on the name. He is actually sulking in that pic.
I gave him a bath an hour prior to pic. I didn’t want to but believe me he needed it. He was sharing a cage w/ 2 other boys that had sprayed all over him. He was yellow, sticky and very musky to say the least. It couldn’t of been healthy for him either.
I’ll be sure to post more photos in the next couple of days.
Haha, well he’s adorable even when sulking. Good job on the bathing because he’s looking pretty spiffy in that picture.
squuuuueeeeeeeee…o for cuteness
What a beautiful bunny! Love the name too.
Love the facial markings! He’s a beauty!
