         Hi everyone!

I’m Abby, an elementary school music teacher from Kansas. I’ve been lurking around the forum for a while and decided I might as well create an account.

My roommate and I recently became bunny parents. She is allergic to cats and dogs, but we both love adorable furry things, so we started thinking about bunnies. We did research for about 6 months and made sure she wasn’t allergic to bunnies first, because that would have been an awful thing to discover the hard way. Everything worked out, and after having fun building with NIC cubes and collecting toys, we brought two bunnies home. Mitzi is a female chocolate Polish, and Mortimer is a male fawn Holland lop. We didn’t intend to get a boy and girl, but they were the ones that told us they would be coming home with us, so we’re making it work. (Don’t worry, all precautions in place, no babies in this house!!!) They are both around 4 months old, and we’ve had them about a month. We found a vet and took them in right away for an age check and to discuss spay and neuter, which will be happening as soon as Mortimer’s …..stuff….. well, you know….. and Mitzi is old enough. Our vet spays at 6 months.

Mitzi is our brave bunny. She likes to explore and hop up on things. She has a passion for basil, so we’re using that as her special treat and starting to teach her tricks. I think she’d do well with clicker training, so I may be trying that with her. She loves willow and can kill a small ball in an hour and a big one in a couple days. She’s well on her way to eating the willow toy and hay baskets too.

Mortimer is very shy, and a bit lazy. He likes eating and sleeping. He has only /just/ allowed me to pet him (sometimes), and has finally warmed up enough to eat raisins and romain from our hands. If we even think about picking him up to check his nails or his….masculine progress….. he hops immediately to the very back of his condo and flops where it is hardest to reach him. Smart bunny.

I’m reasonably sure our bunnies are about as spoiled as they can be. Clearly we are now slaves.

I’m sorry I have no pictures up yet. When I do I’ll add them.

Welcome. I’m from Kansas too (well, live here, not from here)

They sound like cuties. Glad you are taking precautions, just be careful at bunnies WILL mate through bars / baby gates if they are allowed. Persistent little things. Hope to see some pictures soon.
