Here are some pics of my kittens- Melody, silver tabby  and Mason, grey tabby.  They are littermates that we adopted at the end of May.  I lost a beautiful silver tabby male Moonshine to cancer in Feb- and I wanted another silver tabby.  And I thought my cat Oreo only had at most a year to live due to kidney disease- so we decided to adopt 2 littermates.

I took Oreo to the vet about 2 weeks ago for a urinary tract infection- she was dribbling urine on my bed.  I decided to take her to a DIFFERENT vet other than the one that I worked at for 8 years.  They checked her urine and she had an infection- started on AB’s.  They also checked her kidney values and compared them to the ones in her history- her kidney values were better than they were last year.  In fact the vet does not consider her to have kidney disease- and did not even consider previous bloodwork to be indicative of kidney disease.  So my previous ultra careful vet diagnosed her with kidney disease which caused me much stress, tears and guilt.  But she is fine- Thank Goodness.  Goes to show that a second opinion can be invaluable.  It was the best news ever- and money just can’t buy that peace of mind and true happiness of knowing that Oreo will be around for years more.  Of course now I have TWO kittens- but neither are going anywhere!

        Oreo and the kittens-

Melody jumped into a bowl that I got out to mix parrot food in- pellets, seeds, fruit, etc.  My husband spun her in the bowl and she still did not get out- ske kinda like the ride I think.

Meoldy’s left eye is still a little squinty- but her eye is still healing (and being treated) for a large corneal ulcer- when I adopted her that eye was stitched closed for 3 weeks for healing.

What beauties! (snuggles) And what wonderful news about Oreo! I am so happy for you!
I had thought back in May you were only going to get the one though, so I’m happy to see you brought home both. Melody’s eye looks terrific for all that it’s been through.
So precious, that pic of the three of them. How cool that she is so accepting of the babies. To this day, after ten years, my older girl, Tooey, still doesn’t accept my tabby tom, Griff and he just adores her. She will box him and hiss at any opportunity, usually just because she feels like it.
However, she loves to spin in any chair that revolves. My son will get her going to the point that she gets bad nystagmus, but she loves to spin. She’ll actually whine if you stop. Weird cat. ^_^
Melody has some gorgeous markings, but I have to admit, Mason is the one that charms me. I love the heavy steel grey coloring throughout his fur.

That’s great to hear about Oreo! All your cats are so beautiful. I really love tabbies.

I also love the stripe on Melody’s head.

                    Beautiful!

I’ve never heard of silver tabbies. How are they different from the grey ones? From the pictures it looks like Melody has more contrast between her stripes and base color than her brother.

Elrohwen- silver tabbies are not common- I usually hate to hear the word “rare” associated with a pet- but it is really a rare color I guess. Her undercoat is silver/white and her markings are more of a black. My other silver tabby that I had- we had to bathe him before the cat shows I entered him in for the Household Pet catagory- and when he was wet- he looked completely silver/white.
The grey tabby like Mason is a common color- light grey background and undercoat and dark grey pattern. He is such a typical male lovey cat- he demands attention/love- where Melody approached and then responds to affection.
