HA! It’s not a rabbit!!! Let’s be honest…who rolled their eyes at me!! Haha   Rufio is a crow!

Rufio was kicked out of a 40 foot redwood tree in front of my boyfriends house, in the weeks earlier we had found 2 other nest mates, I tried saving one but he was too far gone, and the other was dead.

I have no idea why they were flung out of the nest, I can’t even see where the nest is. It’s really sad though.

I was raised with parrots and smaller birds, where I was taught how to hand feed and care for hatchilings. My grandma had a large business breeding exotic parrots and hand raising them.

I couldn’t just leave him there, I don’t believe that it’s “nature” that my boyfriends cat would have eaten him surely. The parents weren’t landing to feed him and the mosquitos under that tree are RIDICULOUS I have at least 20 bites even through my shirt!! What gives!? He’s doing really well now, his legs are getting stronger – he has a calcium deficeny so he’s been a bit wobbly. I now have to start introducing egg whites, soggy dog food, bugs, and steamed veggies to him. He’s so cute! I called around some places before I was attactched to him to raise him….they wanted to charge me to take him…. no one wanted to take him either since he needs feedings every hour. AHHHHH!!!  You should hear his sqwaaak for food. It’s so ugly lol!!!!

        anyways here he is!

LOL, I thought it was another rabbit! He is so cute. Will he be able to go back in the wild?

I’ve read people’s stories that they have let them go and they hang around for awhile then fly off or they find a wildlife refuge for them that has an aviary. I don’t know if he will be able to be released but we will see. I don’t know how strong his bond will be with me since he’s a larger baby – not a new hatch-ling. Although every time he see’s me his mouth opens…lol. I’ve read mixed things, people saying he will fly off and do fine and others saying congrats on your new pet.  I am hoping to get in contact with a rehaber that will guide me and let me do it but make sure I am doing it all correctly.

What a cutie. I have 29 birds myself and don’t think I would be able to let him go. Please let us know how he keeps doing.

Birds will sacrifice the weakest of their offspring if the nest gets too crowded, and whatnot. We saw this happen repeatedly with a group of phoebes nesting on our neighbor’s porch light last spring. The mother kicked one of the birds from the nest, we replaced it, she kicked it out again. The poor little thing finally died after spending a lonesome night on the porch floor. I noticed it behind some of my neighbor’s belongings, like it had been trying to snuggle up to something to get warm. It was so sad.

Anyway, Hi, Rufio!!! I hope he thrives and grows to be a strong and handsome fellow! He’s lucky you found him.
