Hello! I have recently gotten myself a Dutch bun from a pet store. I havent had a bun since I was a kid, but I’ve wanted one for years. After finally talking my husband into it, his only care was that it not have red eyes. Lol.

My buns name is Jelly Bean. Yup, I got him around Easter. We keep him outside, in a hutch/ cage. I have 1 cat and 1 dog inside. My cat and Jelly Bean get along pretty well since Mossy (cat) was raised by me. My dog however was a rescue and would love to eat him!   >.<   I do bring Jelly Bean in and let my dog out so that he can play and spend more time bonding with me. I also make sure that when I do this theres not a dramatic change in the temps because I know this could cause him to get a cold.

Being a new bun owner I will have lots of questions Im sure. Before I got Jelly Bean I checked out Lib. books, got magazines and did some internet research…. I found some things clash. I blame the Lib. book being old – things have changed so much.  I want my bun to grow and be healthy, having a fun and active life.

Since I’ve had him it seems his fav. toy is the tp roll with hay or grass in it. I’ve also trained him to a litter box! Which I thought would be hard but was very simple.

I will try to get my id picture working once I fig. out how to size it.

          Welcome! He’s very cute!

There is a lot of conflicting info available. This site advocates rabbits as house companions, so if you are planning on keeping him outdoors for the duration of his life, I’m not sure how much help we’ll be to you. We encourage people to house rabbits inside because it is so much safer. If you live in the US, summer is quickly approaching and the high temps outdoors are not appropriate for rabbits, not to mention fright from predators, pests, etc…

I do plan on it at a later date. Right now we are in the process of moving and once we are settled again Im planning on him being in a spare room. Still in a cage when Im not around or when the dog is loose.

I would lurk and check out the habitats board, there are a lot of suitable indoor setups for rabbits. The cage would have to be pretty large if your sweet bun is going to have to stay in it all the time! Many BB’rs have free-roam rabbits, and usually just use cage for bedtime. I just got my bun, so he’s in a cage opened up to an xpen (exercise pen, you can find them online and in stores like Petco).

I don’t know anything about having an outdoor rabbit.

Welcome! I’m very happy to hear you will be bringing him inside – it’s lonely and frightening outside for a rabbit.
