Meet our little furry ball of love!  The name given to him by the New Mexico House Rabbit Society is Garner, but we’re still trying on names to find the one that seems to fit him best. For now we call him all sorts of sweet names, like little bun bun, sugar dumpling, sweet stuff, and little pumpkin.

Garner is a Dutch rabbit, about a year old, give or take.  He was rescued from the animal shelter by NMHRS and put up for adoption.  We found him by doing a web search.  At first I thought driving three hours with him would be too much for him, but after reading several posts here I realized that it wasn’t too bad at all.  He didn’t eat, drink, pee or poo much the first afternoon and evening, but by the next morning he was doing all the normal bunny things.  He’s super sweet and has checked out every little area of his new digs.  I think he must like us all enough to keep us since he’s already ‘groomed’ each of us at one point or another!

        Lovin’ the Bun!

Aw, he is a sweetheart! He looks like he has been dipped in paint or ink but I cant think of a name from that that would be good, primer, Sherwin Williams, Ink… doesn’t look like it would do his cuteness justice.
My boyfriend named Huckleberry, so I asked him what he thought…. his creative juices must be drained, he said “Moo?”
I like going through movies or books or tv shows and naming animals from that. He is black and white like Sweeny Todd’s hair was but he doesn’t look much like a murderous barber… then again, buns surprise us with how rotten they can be.
It’s St Patrick’s day, you can name him Shamrock, Shammy for short…. ?
I have been little help, but that cuteness is so distracting!
Welcome *insert name here*!!!! Huckleberry says “You look like a gentleman!”

He certainly looks to be a Sweetie!

            2 name suggestions:
Oliebollen (Ollie) after the Dutch dumpling
            or

He’s gorgeous! I say give it a few days and a name will just come to you. I really don’t mind the name Garner either. So glad you adopted this cutie pie!

Welcome to the world of the dutches. Don’t worry if you hear some sort of metal work going on at night. Dutches seem to be drawn to welding together creations for world domination.

Thanks.  I’ve been trying to find Dutch words that relate to his cuteness and this one is great!  Knabbel is Dutch for nibble or munch and I’d love to use it, but it already belongs to the bunny responsible for us finally deciding it was time for our own bun.  I wrote about him in my profile.  He’s adorable!

LOL MarkBun!!!  The first night was just like having a new baby in the house; listening for any strange noises and getting up just to check that all is well.  Ha!  And now I know the truth…world domination!  He’s already got us all wrapped around his little paw.

Thanks everyone for encouraging me and giving suggestions for naming our little bunny pal. He seems quite regal and tonight we thought of Prince Caspian from the Narnia series. Others that are still on the list are: Oreo, Zorro (because of his mask-like face), Romeo (because he’s such a little lover boy) and still looking at Dutch words that translate into cute sounding names that mean cute things. We’re still wide open for suggestions!

Diederik (ruler of people, always true of bunnies)
Hubrecht (bright heart, cute and also always true of bunnies)
Personally I think I like Hubrecht VanBunBun.

Hubrecht VanBunBun is cute! heh heh! I also saw Hendrick (home-ruler, also true of bunnies!)  Might have been on same name site.

I was looking up the Dutch word for Button (as in “cute-as-a-button) and the plural Buttons is Piccolo. But it also means page-boy which I thought was neat because the dutch bunnies do look like their wearing a little suit.

btw, Dutch word for pumpkin is Pompeon, which is kinda cute. According to google translator it’s pronounced pom-pon rather then pom-po-en. It’s fun playing around with name ideas. In the end you’ll probably call him whatever you’re using now. ;o)

hehe, when I ask google translate how to say ‘adorable’ in dutch, I get aanbiddenswaardig. That would be really funny trying to tell the vet’s office how to spell his name when you go. Piccolo is cute.

Oh he’s so cute! I love the crisp lines of his markings. For some reason, I think of proper-sounding British-y names when I look at him. Like… Clive, or Maurice, or Rupert, or Owen… or Clive Owen … haha

Well…it looks like my 15 year-old son picked a name we all laughed at and then agreed on…Scooter Beans!  And he was the one who was rejecting all the silly, cuddly names…go figure.  I really enjoy adding a title to his name, my favorite is Professor Scooter Beans.  He enjoys nosing around in the kids’ school books and anything my husband or I’m reading while we’re hanging out with him.  We had such a hard time getting all four of us to agree on a name, and then we pick something completely silly !  I also really like “Cruiser” because he’s black and white and runs around really fast like a police car on a high-speed chase.  (It didn’t hurt that “Fuzz” is also a fun slang word for the police!)  Anyway, I was over-ruled.  So was Romeo, Tesoro, Oreo, Domino, Mr. Moo, Whiskers, and about one-hundred other names we tried out.  At least I can call him Officer Scooter Beans when he’s running around!  I also like to call him Judge Scooter Beans when he’s rejecting spinach, Dr. Scooter Beans when he’s pawing through someone’s hair looking for foreign objects, Chef Scooter Beans when he’s rearranging his salad bowl, and King Scooter Beans when he’s sitting majesticly in his bunny throne!  When we told him he shared the title of Mr. Binky Bunny 2011 with Frankie and Mr. Wooly, he was so excited he did a few binkies and earned a new title, Mr. Scooter Beans

Thanks for all the suggestions, they were very fun!  (And boy am I glad we finally picked a name!
