Hello everyone! I’ve been looking around on the site for a few days and posted a couple of problems so I thought it’s time to formally introduce myself and my babies!

I live in Southern Oregon and have for 28 of my 29 years. I’m joining this forum because I recently became a first time owner (slave!) of two beautiful, Holland Lop boys. Their names are Bubba and Berry, they were born in May of 2010, they joined our family in October 2010. We are currently going through the oh so joyus teenager stage as they are not yet neutered. (That will be happening soon!)

After receiving so many wonderful, helpful responses to my other post and searching this site endlessly (my husband is probably close to tossing my computer out the door ) I have decided on a few things:

        1) Get them fixed sooner than later, I think I’d rather go without food for a month than put it off any longer!!

        2) Begin clicker training immediately. (I’m assuming that this should be done on a one on one basis at first instead of having them together, right? Would it be wise to wait until they are neutered or can I start now?)

        3) Change their play area from the whole kids (about 30ft x 12ft) room to possibly the kitchen area, at least until they are neutered and showing a bit more care for their litter habits. Play time has turned into a giant frustration for me.

I am so excited to really work with them and create the wonderful bonds that I’m reading about here on the site. I will keep updates on the progress.

Oh, and I have a wonderful husband, an amazing step son (4), and a beautiful daughter (3). And my four legged family includes 5 big dogs, 1 little dog, 3 cats, 1 horse, 1 tortoise, the bunnies, and some chickens (I know they only have two legs)!

I look forward to many more days with you guys!

        Bubba

        Berry

Wow, Bubba! That’s a big family. Welcome!

I’m very glad you have been finding the site so helpful. You really are on track to making a wonderful home for your boys. Applause for getting them neutered asap. It will help the bonding, etc.

I think you can start clicker training them one at a time with a few things to remember: they are young, so are learning all things in general, so they may not get it as fast because they also are learning to be litter pan trained, not to eat cords, how to train a slave to meet their every wish, etc. Just remember in clicker training that if they do not do it, be quiet and ignore. Do not reprimand. You can’t associate the clicker or command with a negative even once. Keep it positive, consistent reinforcement only. And be patient. They may not take to it now, but in 6 months post neuter, they may even seem to remember and come back to it. So you can take their adjustments one thing at a time if you need to.

Other requirements here, as you may have heard: Cute pix! We have poking sticks to get members to post more photos, and we know how to use them.

I am new as well but I’m sure you will absolutely love it here!  I don’t think there’s another rabbit board where people are as friendly as here

Your boys are so cute!  I just LOVE holland lops and plan on having one someday   I think I would actually take 1 of every breed, haha. Clicker training interests me as well, this is something I have to look into more.  I think we also need some pics of all your critters, I love chickens!!  What kind of dogs do you have?

I haven’t been able to pick up a clicker yet, but the funny thing is I noticed when I click at them with my mouth like I do to my horse they seem interested in what I have to offer! Think I might just try that…??! Thank you for the clicker tips, I’m so excited to start.

I will definately post pics of all my lovely creatures, I thought I would wait until the photo albums were working so I didn’t take up too much space in the forum….but I might have a couple pics I could share earlier! My dogs are as follows: tea cup blonde yorkie, pitbull/shepherd mix, Yellow lab, golden retriever, and two 1 year old mastiff/lab mix boys (they are definately taking after the mastiff side)!

m23boys: I saw the pics of your dogs and they are all beautiful too!

I’ve trained my rabbits by whistling and treats. Came in handy last weekend when I couldn’t get my girl out of her hiding place when she saw she was going to the vet. A whistle and she came running. Took me three days of whistling and raisins to get her to trust me again.

Sqeeeee!!! I love them and need way more pictures. Holland lops are my favorite favorite!

Good for you getting them neutering and clicker training! I would definitely do them one-on-one – my two just end up climbing over each other and not concentrating at all on tricks, but when separate they can settle down and focus pretty well. What do you plan to teach them?

I’d love to see pics of more of your pets too! Especially the dogs and the horse.

Well, we did our first clicker training! I’m going to make a new post in the Behavior section about it!

MonkeyBun: I live around the Grants Pass area. I think I remember someone telling me there was a great vet in Jacksonville that has experinece with rabbits….I haven’t found anything online yet but I’m going to keep looking. Thanks for the help!

I will definately be posting more pics of everyone soon!

I found an exotics vet in Grants Pass that has been there awhile, not sure how good they are but you can always call them up and ask questions. Their website is http://www.pacificvetclinic.com

They are a full service vet clinic, treating all kinds of pets, so they may be a decent vet clinic.

I have actually used them for a couple of my dogs in the past and always been happy with them, didn’t know they did exotics…I will definately call them and find out their experience with rabbits. Thank you!
