Hey everyone! I’ve searched this site before for a few months now and finally decided to join!

I have a Flemish Giant named Leopold, he’s about 4 months old. My boyfriend and I bought him from a local flea market here in Michigan in September. He loves to run around my apartment, right now we have him in a dog cage that’s big enough fo a 30lb dog [my dog doesn’t use his cage so thats his temp home for now]. Untill we can save up enough money, aka after Christmas, we’re buying him the works to build him a bunny condo! I can’t express how excited i am about that hahahaha.

If anyone else on here has a Giant i’d love to hear stories and see pictures!! I’m anxious to see how big some turn out!

            Welcome

Compared to your bunny, I have a 3 pound Netherland dwarf. She is a diva. You will be surprised by how funny bunnies can be And how much love they give!

Thanks everyone! Leopold loves all the nice comments

I’m not sure how big he is just yet, we’re taking him to the vet in a month or so to get neutered. He feels no more than 10lbs when i carry him. lol

I’m also wondering if anyone knows how big i should make his condo. I’m living in an apartment and don’t have too much room to work with! But he needs a bigger space. Any suggestions??

Oh my, what a beautiful boy you have! I had a Flemish Giant. He was a big boy and so much fun.

The minimum should be roughly 1 square foot per pound – although people like to make them a little bit bigger along with levels to give them some freedom. Not to mention that flemmish giant will grow more.

Here’s a few pictures to show you how big Hugo was.  I don’t know how a condo would work out for a Flemish.  They are big and heavy.  It would be nice for now but I think he’d quickly out grow it.  Hugo was free range and he stayed in the kitchen when we weren’t home or asleep.

Here he is with my 5 and 6 year old daughters.

Here he is laying at my husbands feet.  He was about 36″ when he streched out.

Here was his area in our kitchen.  It was about 3’x5′.  It didn’t give him much room to play once he had a house, litterbox, food dishes and a hay box.  We just stepped over it when we needed to.  That’s him under the table.

I hope I helped you a little.  Let me know if you have any questions.  I’d be happy to help!

Welcome, and good choice joining this site!
I love all these pics, and Amy’s pics too… WOW. I am used to a 4 lb. bunny and normal-sized (10-ish lbs) cats. Holy crap are those bunnies big, and gorgeous!!

I have a triple-level NIC cube condo and my bunny has no problem leaping between the levels. It’s probably 20 square feet between the 3 levels, for a little bunny. So you’d probably need an even larger space for a bigger bunny. If the cage is big and comfy and fun enough, they don’t feel trapped, in fact even when I open the door a lot of times Mr. Bun-Bun is happy just chilling in his cage!

It’s really hard to make a contained space large enough for a flemish giant to get adequate exercise, so you might want to try having a smaller pen but working towards free range with him. This will, of course, be easier once he’s been neutered and matured a bit. I think a good size space for one flemmie is… an apartment. Lol.

I had a feeling that i was just going to have to make a big pen for him and let him have free range of the house. My boyfriend wants to do that anyways! Haha. Thanks for the suggestions everyone!! :]
