Thursday night my husband and I went to the SPCA to meet Maddie. I’ve been keeping an eye on the SPCA website for a while and poor Maddie just wasn’t finding a home. Well when we got there, I overheard someone talking about “that tiny little bunny with the tiny little ears…and WHAT is WITH that bunny??” I guess Maddie was not friendly with the staff and had a tendency to nip. But guess what?? She loved me!! She didn’t nip, she even let me pick her up! She wanted her nose pet sooooo badly. We cuddled, and I really think she fell for me!
So last night we brought Nibbles to meet Maddie. I was so worried that they would hate each other and fight. Well….they met face to face and it was like they were on different planets. Talk about indifferent!! So, I got tired of waiting for them to notice each other, and put Maddie in the pen with Nibbles. AWWWWWWWWW…..they cuddled and groomed each other!!! Well that was that. The ride home was much of the same–cuddling and grooming.
However, at home, on Nibbles’ turf is a different story. But I guess that’s to be expected and now we’re going through the bonding process.
Maddie still loves me–she’s very affectionate, giving me licks, snuggles, tooth purrs, and loves her nose petted. She still gets frightened and does in fact nip, but I can tell it’s because she’s been startled. I guess the SPCA put 2 other females in her pen and she was picked on all the time. Yes, that appaulled me and I couldn’t wait to get the poor thing home!! Maddie is 3 years, 5 months old. She has been spayed. She spent over a month at the SPCA.
Nibbles has actually perked right up. She was so anti social before. For the past two weeks she has been so depressed. Even though the two are kept seperate for now, Nibbles’ behaviour is different. I think this will be a good thing. I can’t wait for them to bond, but yes–I will be patient.
