Hello Everyone! I am new to the site (just stumbled across it today). My name is Mollie and am fortunate to share my house with two sweet girls. I am excited to finally found a place for rabbit lovers like me!
I have Mini Rex named Izzy and Bella is our Holland Lop. I look forward to sharing their stories and getting to know yours!
Welcome and your bunnies are gorgeous!
Thank you! I think so too, but I may be a bit bias! ![]()
Welcome! What beautiful ladies you have!
That is the combination i want one day, broken rex and holland <3 <3 <3
How old are your girls? are they spayed and how long did it take to bond them?
Thank you! Izzy turned 1 in February and Bella will be 1 on August 31st. They were actually spayed on Tuesday of this week. Izzy was back to normal the very next day, but Bella had a little bit of trouble. I had to syringe feed her until this morning. They didn’t take long to bond at all. We got Bella in January and gradually introduced the girls. I would say after day 4 we let them stay in the same cage over night and after that they have been inseparable. They follow each other everywhere they go. I love your picture..too cute! ![]()
So you actually bonded two unspayed females? That is really interesting. I was just reading today at http://www.rabbit.org something that sort of sounded like they only thought you should seperate two unneutered males once they sexually mature and not the females, which I thought was interesting. Also, lately I have heard of others who have bonded unspayed females. Not that I would recommend it, but it is really interesting, because I have been thinking a lot that we are all just being a bit too worried about bonding unneutered bunnies (I still strongly believe in neutering, it is just an interesting point)
And how cute they are!
Ha! Yes, we bonded them unspayed. People have been surprised when we tell them that and then I give them the “do not try this at home” spiel. I too have heard horror stories about unaltered rabbits and bonding. I would be more afraid of bonding unneutered Males, but that is just me. Interesting, I’ll have to check that out on rabbit.org.
Just to add, when we decided we were going to get Bella. We bought all new things for the girls: toys, food/water containers, cage, litterbox, ect. Izzy wasn’t allowed around it at all (it was kept in a room she cannot go in). That way either of them had any claim to anything.
I think it would be really interesting for all of us who are really into rabbit behaviour if you would describe the bonding proces in the bonding section. I really hope you will do so with a lot of info! Because it is so interesting.
Neat, I actually had two bonded upspayed non related girls, they were put together as babies, and bonded. But once i took them in, the ladies found new loves, my boy bunnies. Both girls were never spayed b/c of their age and health though. Out of all the bunnies I had these two were the onlly ones humping.
Hope your girls have a speedy recovery to their spay. I look forward to seeing more pictures of them ![]()
That’s amazing you were able to bond two unspayed, adult females! We’ve all heard horror stories about one or both ending up at the ER vet b/c of a nasty fight. Those girls can be crazy about their territory.
Welcome! Your buns are so cute! Your Bella is a stout little girl, isn’t she… lol!
Karla, when I get a chance I will post in the bonding section.
Andi, they did hump attempt to hump a few times. It was kind of comical because Bella didn’t know what to do. She would just mount Izzy and sit there. I would say we maybe had that problem for a week and then they stopped. Beka, Thanks! I have heard some pretty gruesome stuff myself. I believe the camera packs on 10 pounds..haha Bella weighs 4 pounds and Izzy is 3.1 pounds. She is all fur. ![]()
Max and Meadow have beautiful patterns! I love the broken pattern on their faces! It looks like they have on little masks. ![]()
Welcome. Your girls are adorable.
Welcome! Izzy and Bella are adorable!![]()
oh my goshhhh!!! I love them, they are adorable!!! Can’t wait for more piccies. I was just thinking, these two would make the perfect girlfriends for my two boys.. I also have a lop and a mini rex, just boys
Also, they don’t mind being on a harness/leash? Did you have to train them? I would love to train my bunnies to do this but have heard about rabbits freaking out when having a harness on. Anyways, Welcome! Your two girls are beautiful ![]()
I am also new to this site and LOVE it! I just got a mini rex named Pixie! We just brought her home today and Imi in love! I also have 2 pugs and 2 daughters. We have a house full now!
Thanks everyone! SullysMum, as for the harness and leash. We let them hop around the house a few days with the harness on to get use to it before we took them out. They aren’t fond of putting the harness over their head, but once it is they are fine. We also give them a reward once the harness is completely on them, so that helps. Izzy didn’t like the leash at first and she tried to chew it for the first few visits outside, but I think it was more because she saw it and thought it would be fun to chew on. After the first few nibbles tried to make sure it was out of her sight (always behind her) when she was out and she didn’t mind it at all. We really didn’t train them, just let them get use to hoping around with us in tow.
Pixiemom, Congrats on your new addition! I can’t wait to see pictures of her! I am sure she is adorable!
Welcome! They are so cute! Adorable photo!
