BT, you’re not the only one who’s done that. I also remember moving and looking all over for a favorite CD, only to find them doubled up in my stereo. It’s easier to do than people realize. And techies see it all the time. Glad you got it fixed. Who said hitting a machine doesn’t fix it?
MM,
I am pretty sure that some computers can have XP installed on request instead of Vista. Maybe it was Dell online that allowed you to order it that way, but if you’re shopping for a laptop, you can ask the store if you can have that, or, price out a computer without the software installed, then buy XP and install it. That’s probably much more expensive, though.
My new laptop (Acer-really excellent and much cheaper because it’s the leading seller in Asia and Europe but not for long in the US so it’s very competitive) came with Vista. What I like about it is that I have both XP and Vista in desktop and laptop, but if there’s new stuff out that runs with Vista, I have the option available. So much is being made compatible with Vista that it’s nice to have current software. Also, I found it very easy to change and can go back and forth without any particular confusion. Ultimately the differences are minor.
