        try a door!

As I mentioned in a couple of other threads, Pepper has free run of my condo – EXCEPT the sewing/computer/rehearsal room.  Just too many wires/pins/foot pedals/adhesives/etc to ever be truly bunnyproofed.

At my old place I made a gate from NIC grids, and after 3 defeats finally managed to come up with a locking mechanism that she couldn’t get loose.  But now that it’s MY place I can install something more permanent.

Someone posted a set of bifold closet doors on CraigsList.  The tops were louvered with slats but the bottoms were solid.  So I responded, and hauled a single door home with me on the bus – THAT was interesting.  Then I sawed the top part off (and used the slats to make planters but that’s another story) leaving me with the solid bottoms.  I got a pair of regular door hinges at the hardware store and mounted this in the doorframe.  It’s set in sucgh a way that should I wish I could still close the actual door of the room, but pretty much all the time I leave it open for airflow and just close these things.

So far I’ve not bothered with a latch, as I installed them a little too close to the floor (see the scrape marks) but eventually I’ll probably add a simple hook clasp.  Since the bottom is solid, most of the time it doesn’t even register with Pepper that there is a room there – she totally ignores it.  But with the top open I get airflow into the hallway, as that room gets a bit warm sometimes.

Ahaa on the bus.   Hey we need a new door ahaha.  Cool tho.   Good idea.

I have taken weird stuff on the buses too.   I bought an xpen and I had to take the bus again to return it and get a larger one.   It was up to my chest almost and I drug that thing on the bus ahaha. And home too.  Oh was it heavy.

Was your door heavy?  I bet there were some nice people who helped you with it too. It sure looks like a great set up you got there. Real nice. Oh you sew too?  I quit sewing.  Not enuf room I did make a voodoo doll for the neighbor tho.  By hand.  I took  a pic of it.  I need to post it too.

I have seen bums with their shoes taped together with ducktape and weirdos saying real  loud yeah I just got out of jail on my 5th DUI.   Uh duh.  Like I want to know this.

OH and 1 crossdresser too.  Ahh the varied passengers.  Then the ones drunk saying yeah i used to smoke a bag of pot a day.  Yeah ?  where did that get you?

Do you see passengers like that too?

I have lived in Chicago for 20 years and have never owned a car, so I’m used to most forms of Public transit.  Keep my purse on the inside and my nose in a book works really well.

I design and build costumes – mostly historicals (I’m a renfaire musician) but also some comic book and movie recreations, and now I’m getting really into steampunk.

That’s a good idea. Maybe I should try that for the little hallway that leads up to my room. That’s so cool that you sew stuff like that!I’m a techie at school, & i’m going to major in it at college.

I LOVE IT! THAT IS SO COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!

It’s just absolutely perfect. I will have to remember this for “someday” when it may be necessary/convenient and we have our own house!
