I need ideas!  The rescue I volunteer for has a large empty shop right next door to the pet store,  we usually do our adoptions at Petsmart ccuz of the high traffic pet people, we recently did a pet photo shoot but we need some other good ideas on how to use the space for a weekend sort of event  something.  Im sure that is all perfectly clear… right….

How about free training on how to groom/self check your pets? Or maybe something like, ‘now that Summer is approaching, here’s how to keep your pets cool’?? That might attract some pet owners… Just a thought!

What about a shelter store to help make $ for the shelter by selling toys and supplies???? Many shelters do it!

              Bunny get-togethers would be amazing…help w/ clicker training….

I know Little Miracles Rabbit Rescues is doing a rummage sale to help raise $ right now for their new shelter- what about using space sometimes for things like that-and things left over take to your local Goodwill?

I think I would use that space for everything you can so even if its large enough to break it down into sections for different things? Perfect $ making area for you guyz if you have access to it at all times?!

Er, well not to me…but it is getting late here…
So it’s empty space, that the rescue can use/owns? And they want to do some sort of community event to raise funds for the shelter? Preferably pet related?
Is the rescue rabbit only or a mix of animals?

A few of fundraisers we have done:

Bunny Spa Day – We have separate tables for weighing and checking ears, one for grooming, one for nail clipping. We also bring in items to sell. We generally ask a $10 donation for the family and give them a zoom groom which we use to brush their rabbits and a small toy.

Vet Medical Talk – this is a good one for fundraising – if you have a vet that works with the shelter then ask if they can put together a talk on basic bunny illnesses (cause, cure, etc.) and do some questions and answers afterwards – charge a donation at the door. We also did some little medical kits to go along with this. You will probably have to help the vet get organized on this – depends on the vet of course – they sometimes get busy and we always offer to help in anyway we can to help get them prepared.

Bunny Basics Class – you can have volunteers and board members give talks on care, litter training, diet, etc…this is good to invite the public who has rabbits and may not know the “proper” care of rabbits or at least your philosophy. Charge a donation at the door per family again.

We do alot of Open Houses around the holidays at our sanctuary – kind of themed events to get members and the public in to see our rabbits and we sell a bunch of rabbit items. We also do stockings at Christimas and baskets at Easter for the rabbits of course, but you can be creative and maybe do a Spooky Open House around Halloween and things like that.

                    Another idea:

I like JRBunbun’s idea alot – have a class where you can show people the proper way to pick up their rabbits and show them how to cut their nails – people hate doing this because they get so stressed – charge a fee and give a brush and nail clippers to each participate to take home. The New York House Rabbit Society has a good DVD you can watch as well and show and have each person practice that technique – it’s rabbit handling and nail cutting.

It’s empty retail space that’s currently unleased.  It’s right next door to the pet store where a bunch of our adoptable rabbits are kept and the landlord sounds open to letting us use it for free so long as it stays unleased.  We would want to focus only on the rabbits.

I really like some of these ideas!

I don’t know a whole lot about the space yet, I was just asked for ideas so I thought I would ask BB people, sorry if I didn’t provide enough info Jerseygirl, I just don’t know a lot yet. I’m not an official volunteer, so I’m not always in the know.

I think I got it, just was unsure. Like I said, it was late / brain was fried… A good idea to ask here – they are so many that also volunteer at rabbit rescues. Sorry I don’t have any ideas. I’m just interested! lol

I really like the separate tables idea for weighing and grooming stuff,  the space is pretty big.  Maybe we could combine that with a class or rabbit housing displays!  Has anyone seen anything that has ever really just seemed to stand out to them?  And as I type Damian is sitting on the recumbant bicycle seat.  You can see him plotting and judging the distance to  the crackers on the end table.  Farrah is running the Bunny 500 from the Kitchen to the living room and back again!

Cute! ^ I had though condo displays etc would be a good set up. Even the store set up like a gallery that people can come in and look at the joys of house bunnies. Lots of imagery, displays & info. Entry fee at the door. A few super friendly furries to greet people.
