Came across this online today and thought I’d share!
It’s good! I’m glad we don’t have the Easter bunny tradition in Sweden.
That’s a good awareness ad. It really bothers me when people think its a great Easter gift to give a rabbit or baby chicks and ducks. I feel sorry for the poor baby animals that are no longer wanted after the holiday.
This is one of my favorite awareness ads I’ve seen!
“Make Mine Chocolate” is a super group
I think awareness adds like this is great. I mean really, you WOULDN’T buy your child a reindeer. Just because a bun or chick/duck is smaller does not mean they are easier to care for.
I mean it kinda depends on the situation though. Would I have the same reaction let’s say if MB’s hubby brought home a new bun from the shelter for MB on easter then lets say a mother buying her 4 year old a bun from a breeder? No I wouldn’t. Because for the examples, MB is a responsible and knowledgeable person who knows the work it takes to house a happy rabbit and that they need vet care ect. While a 4 year old isn’t old enough or responsible enough to care for a rabbit (or really any animals..).
But about giving buns/chicks/ducklings for Easter, I think it’s bad. Unless you are a RESPONSIBLE, adult that is financially stable ect. and want a bun for a companion and not just because it’s cool to get one at Easter, buying one for a gift is NOT a good idea.
Okay, I’m just rambling on, A like the sign!
It’s okay to get a bunny around Easter if you know what you doing and realize the commitment you’re making. It isn’t okay to get a bunny on an impulse for your kids for Easter and then realize later on that they aren’t that easy to care for. That is the point of the message, which I completely agree with. They are trying to prevent Easter bunnies from getting dumped at shelters or in the woods a few months later.
I tell you what I want to see — I want to see MB’s hubby bring her home a bunny from the shelter! That would definitely be something! LOL!
Thats another thing I don’t understand. If you decided you didn’t want a dog or cat or bird, you wouldn’t set it free in the wild. People are dumb!
JR How right you are!!! Never happen!!
Megabunny — my hubby was loving the bunnies for a long time but has joined the “no more bunnies” team now so I doubt I’ll be getting a surprise Easter bunny either!
I’m thinking its actually LEL’s turn for a new bunny (trio!), but LLH is on a roll!
LLH — beware the “no more bunnies” team that has a way of sucking up hubbies. There is somewhat of an antedote though, developed by Megabunny — (hope you don’t mind MB but I’ve adopted your motto….) and I quote “love me, love my bunny”! There is no proper comeback to that!
Speaking of LEL, she hasn’t been on recently. I hope everything’s going okay with her.
JR. My hubby says we are taking a road trip so he can High Five yours. Meanies!
Borrowing an “AH”……..DAM hubbies!
I’ll probably never stop bugging the hubby. I must commend him for his patience though. He’s been sitting on the bathroom floor for twenty minutes watching two Bunnies sleep! Lol I’ll update my bonding thread with pictures later.
LLH. No fair bragging. LOL
*sigh*
I wish that pet stores would ban the selling of rabbits around easter and breeders hold off on breeding before it. Shelters put a lot of work into making sure pets they adopt out won’t be brought back, and responsible breeders as well. But pet stores and greedy breeders are in it for the money and don’t care where these bunnies go. Easter always makes me so sad because I look at my own bun and think of all the others that don’t have forever homes because of this season…
I was actually talking to a friend the other day about how I used to really like Easter but now that I have a rabbit myself, my love of Easter has really diminished. All I can think about is sheer number of rabbits and chicks that get abused or abandoned this time of year and in the coming months. It’s 2015, you’d think people would be more compassionate.
That would be ideal, MeketatenBun. Unfortunately it seems like money talks louder than suffering in a lot of cases.
Living in the NO bunny land, I find this a struggle to deal with. Only (I’d like to think because the consequences are so severe if caught) people who are genuinely dedicated have bunnies here??? Not like we can pop down to the local shelter or pet shop to pick one up – they don’t exist. And when we get one, who would want to throw away good money? My Henry cost a fortune! I don’t want to mention what he has cost since, lol!
And how people can dismiss any pet that is reliant on humans for survival is beyond me???
It is just TRAGIC that we have to educate parents (ADULTS!) not to buy bunny’s for Easter gifts – has common sense been totally wiped out?
And as far as kid’s buying bunnies – don’t you have to be a certain age??? If not – that should be law!
I get that mistakes get made when purchasing a pet – but be sensible and responsible about it. Be the grown up that you are and don’t dump it! What a great example to set for your kid’s, ‘too hard, dump it’! No wonder we have generations of people who have no respect for our animals, and this cycle will never get broken until we only allow pets to go to people who can prove that they care.
I know….. I’m being unrealistic and expecting to much from our human race. But it truly upsets me! Especially when every Easter everyone has to run around to warn and educate everyone about the Easter ‘bunny’!
*SIGH*!
I believe there is an age limit on purchasing. My daughter had friends dating who were about 18 and decided to get a rabbit together. About a month later they were asking me to take it. I think I was up to 4 at the time and flat out refused. Last I knew, they did keep it, though our shelter had excellent facilities for such cases.
PS – I would buy a reindeer (lol!). It would sleep in our bed while the hubby slept on the floor on one side while I sleep on the floor on the other side!
Yep! Add a reindeer to my list of must have pets! I wonder what the dog’s AND Henry would think about this????
Lol!
PS – My point being, just like a reindeer and Henry, you make that commitment and you don’t give up on your pets – especially around children regardless of how young or old they are! When I got Henry and was overwhelmed and thought WTH – that’s how I found and met you guys. I was desperate to learn how to care for him and provide a happy life. It never occurred to me to give up on him. To this day, I still can’t cuddle him (even if I could I don’t want too! LOL! His year long moult is ridiculous), he is obnoxious, bossy, demanding and doesn’t ‘show the love’, ha ha ha! Yet he is more spoiled than our 3 dog’s combined – just how every bunny should be!
I am desperate for a cuddle bunny (Hazel and I are sharing a cuddle bunny when she finds one…. lol!). But I wouldn’t give up Henry for anything. Just like a child that is not perfect or is too hard, you don’t dump them. Luckily Henry’s obnoxious attitude fits into our family really well, he he he he……
LOL! I just turned around and there was Henry…. eating the dog food! *SIGH*! Dam bunny! (Yep JR… you and everyone is free to use the DAM bunny term when/as required. LOL!).
18! I am even more disheartened MB! Honestly, I give up!
PS – And just like JR, I know you have kept and cared for your kid’s pets like I have too MB – it amazes me that Den still calls Frank his dog?
Maybe I should forward on that last vet bill??? Yer right…… ha ha ha!
AH– Moxie is kinda a cuddle bunny, I’ll lay down next to her patting/hugging/kissing her. She really likes attention, and actually tried to get a pat from the vet until they took her temperature(lol). I’ll share her with you sometimes if you want. But you’ll need to keep the AC running because she’s so fluffy she doesn’t handle heat well. Or maybe I’ll just let you borrow her during your winter? That will be summer over here, so she’ll be able to stay cool over in Aussie with you and Henry.
I come across a lot of these posters on FB. Spread the word!!
I love those signs LPT. Especially the one in the middle about pooping 300 times a day.
Love those LPT!!
Those are great!
But shouldn’t “then” be “than”?
*Only* 300 times a day?!?! Kieko can drop 45 in less than 10 minutes in the common play area! Yes, I counted bunny poops!! And for those of you who remember my magnifying glass, I bet you didn’t think counting poops was odd until I just said it!
THANK YOU Moxie!!! I would love to have Moxie come stay (during Winter, lol!) – what I’d do for a bunny cuddle???
How lovely are you (I always knew!) to share your Moxie with me. It may be Autumn here but it’s still stinking hot (31 degree’s today and I’m over it!), so as soon as it cools down I’ll let you know to send Moxie over….. bunny cuddles *EXCITED*!!!
LOL!
And I’ll take Henry and maybe he’ll make a good friend for my dog? They’re about the same size.
You’re right, LBJ10. I didn’t even notice that grammar mistake and I’m usually really good at catching those. Still a great poster, though.
This is my favorite one so far. I’d post it, but it’s long, so it covers a lot, and also it’s pretty cute

That is so cute Diamond!!!! My favorite is the girl holding the bun and the bun saying “Let me go! I don’t want to die!” (referring to them being prey animals) Love this!
Diamond — really cute!
I have seen chocolate Easter bunnies being sold with anti-real-Easter-bunny-for-kids messages written on them and I thought that was a really good idea. I found an awesome website last year with tons of posters that I used but can’t find it now for the life of me.
But I’m with Andi-my reindeer will be so spoiled!
JR-The hubby has promised me a trio this summer. But of course, me being me, I have already started looking…
Haha, LEL, That’s how I got my first bunny. Hubby said maybe in a few months, we will think about getting a rabbit and start looking. Next evening, Stormy came home.
LEL—So you’re planning on having a trio again?
Yep.
Only a week left! Keep sharing and spreading the word.
I’ve been sharing them on FB. Craigslist is full of “easter bunnies” *sigh* And every time I hear any one speak about rabbits when I am around town it’s always some horror story about a rabbit they bought and left outside. I wish bunnies were “exotic” enough to require taking a test about them to buy like racoons/skunks !
