I doubt anyone remembers me, but here I am again.  Last time I was here,  I had 2 buns, a jersey woolie named Rue and a flemmie mix named Nut puppet.  Summer before last was record-breakingly hot in Oklahoma.   We had 63 days above 100*, with at least 85% humidity.  27 of those days were above 110*.  It was insane.  Our crappy ac in our crappy house just couldn’t deal with it.  The buns had chilled ceramic tiles, damp cloths, frozen 2 liter water bottles, fans, and frozen “fruit pops”.  We did everything we could think of to keep them cool, but the heat still got poor Nut Puppet.  Our whole family was devastated, especially our little girl.  We made the tough decision to rehome Rue so the same thing didn’t happen to him.

It’s been two years now and a lot has changed.  We’ve (thankfully!) left Oklahoma behind and now live in Alaska, where we plan on retiring.  I’Ve been thinking about getting another rabbit ever since we moved, but even checking craigslist, the pound, and the pet stores a couple times a week, I just hadn’t found “the one”.  Until last week.  Folks, meet Melody Elizabeth (named by the same small child who named Nut Puppet)!

My daughter (who just turned 6) looked at me the night we brought her home and said, “Mommy, I still really miss Nut Puppet, and I’m sad he died, but I’m sure glad we have a bunny again.”

EDIT:  I’ll have to add pics later, they need resized and I have to go pick the kid up from school.

Welcome back! Your rabbits is gorgeous. I am glad you have a rabbit once again.I am sorry for your previous loss. I live in Oklahoma and it is already getting pretty hot. Seems last summer was hot as well. The summer you were talking about you couldn’t even get out and enjoy it it was unbearable. Alaska must be a nice change.

Welcome back mossling. : ) I do remember you!

I’m really sorry to hear about Nut Puppet passing away. **Binky free** I always loved that name btw.
I find it easy to think the big bunnies are super-hardy but it seems they have their own set of health issues.

Also so sad you had to part with Rue but I can certainly understand. You must have been really worried. It was a selfless decision.
Do you get any updates on him?
I keep wanting to say her… He was another you thought was a girl but turned out to be a boy right?

Just read your other thread so I’m going to say your new BOY is very cute! I’m especially loving the wispy bits at back of ears and neck. <3

Were you in Alaska before but moved? I have vague recollection that you were there or from there.

I can’t believe you remember me! You’re right, Rue was another one we were told was a girl. At least he had a gender neutral name. That’s my new rule- only gender neutral names for buns! I kept in touch with his new family for a while, long enough to know he settled in well and made friends with his new family’s cat. I now him and Nut Puppet like crazy. I really want another flemish, but just don’t have the room for one now.

We were in Alaska before. My husband is in the air force, so we had to move when we got orders to Oklahoma. We were trying to get orders to *anywhere* else, and got our orders back to Alaska just a few days after we got hit by the big Moore tornado. I was more than ready to go!

So sorry you lost Nut Puppet!
                          Pond is so cute!
