As you know, my buns have a Teach n Treat. They like it, but I was feeling like it was getting too easy for them. I was at Petsmart today looking for a cat treat ball because I thought they would have fun rolling it around. Well apparently there is no such thing anymore because they didn’t have any and I haven’t seen any anywhere else. So…… I came home with this instead. What do you guys think? It’s meant for dogs, but I’m hoping it will still work.
LMAO – I’m embarrassed. I’m confused how it works. I’m going to be even more embarrassed if your cat and rabbit have already figured it out and I’m still over here attempting to figure out how it works..
The red thing is like a wobbly bowl that comes out. The orange thing slides out of the slots. The green thing is a drawer. The yellow thing is a flap on a hing. This is actually the least complicated toy in this Toys R Us collection. But yeah, it’s kind of hard to tell what it is in the picture.
Maybe this helps:
Looks fun for a bun! it should be fine, I would just check for any small pieces that could be chewed or come off. How much did it cost?
No small pieces. I imagine the manufacturers wouldn’t want a dog to be able to eat anything off of it. You know, since it was designed for dogs.
It was on sale for $15.
Alright, a little bit of video! You will have to excuse my husband’s encouragement.
Do note that he did figure out the green drawer after this. The stupid camera battery was low.
Adorable and awesome!
I want to watch this video forever
they are so cute!
They are adorable! And that is a very cool toy
What a great toy! I think it was so smart of you to look elsewhere for toys. Definitely looks like it’s good mental and physical stimulation.
Thanks guys!
Sarita – Yeah, I’m always on the look out for things in other sections. They love their Teach N Treat, which is sitting on the floor in the video, but it just wasn’t challenging anymore. I think Leopold especially needs the mental stimulation. He likes to problem solve. Plus it’s super funny when he acts all frustrated and then a little later figures it out.
Can we get a link to it? Possibly to amazon with BB’s referral code.
I think it might be a Petsmart exclusive item. Here is the link to it on Petsmart’s website.
Huh. I should get one of those – Stickers loves to break down barriers to get food, wouldn’t mind her having something she could ACTUALLY tear apart (that I want her to, anyway) to get at it. Looks like your buns liked it.
Yeah, Chester would love that too. He has a small treat ball and it’s his favourite thing ever. Took him the whole of 3 minutes to figure out how it worked
I do have a petsmart shop relatively close to my house… hmm…
There is a similar puzzle toy made specifically for rabbits called Einstein, and it is one of many of the toys made by a very talented bunnimom, Connie Cowan. All the stuff is handmade and most of them are wood. When I saw this I just thought of that toy.
That’s so cool, LBJ! I want one!
Haha petsmart should pay you for the advertising. ;D
Haha! I know, right? I had a gift card there though and I had to find something to buy. I don’t really shop there that much.
Whelp, seems Leopold has it figured out for the most part. Now he is just improving his time. I should get a stopwatch.
Picked up one today (as well as a cat treat ball, lol) and Lionel loves it. He can do all of the challenges except the orange one, but he’ll get it. Haven’t tried it with the girls yet. I like it. It’s well made and good for stimulation!
Cool! Looks like I’ve started something here. =D
Which cat treat ball did you get? I can’t seem to find one anywhere.
It’s the Kong Active brand, it was the only brand that my petsmart had. It wasn’t by the kong toys, or the ball toys, it was by the mice. But it might be completely different in your pet smart.
LBJ, I got this one on amazon and Chester loves it: http://www.amazon.ca/Smarter-Toys-Treat-Ball-3-Inch/dp/B003ARUKU0/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1390092643&sr=8-3&keywords=treat+ball+for+dogs
Thanks for the suggestions guys! I will have to check those out. Everything I’ve been seeing is made out of hard rubber, which would not be appropriate at all.
This is the treat ball I got from amazon. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0018CG40O/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
That’s how Bumpy is fed his daily pellets. He has to work for them. haha
Love that interactive toy! I’ve been wanting to get him some new things. He’s getting bored lately and has been expressing it by rearranging his xpen. I had NO idea rabbits were that strong! He literally takes his nose and sticks it thru the fencing and lifts, pushes, pulls with his teeth, anything to redecorate! Must get the poor thing something more exciting to do…
Yah. I agree, LBJ10. Most stuff isn’t exactly house rabbit-friendly. There’s lots of processed treats and hay toys. My bunnies don’t likE the wooden toys for bunnies there, though. They like dog toys and cat toys that I approve of. They also like some bird toys that don’t have small parts.
manic – Haha! They are very strong!
Daisy – Yeah I don’t know why all the treat toys are hard rubber now. It is difficult to find the super hard plastic anymore. I guess dogs can’t just take chunks off their their teeth.
So we went back to Petsmart to look for the treat ball LEL suggested. While there, we noticed that this particular Pets R Us toy is completely sold out! Hmm, I wonder if people were buying them for their dogs. Hehe!
Did you find the treat ball?
If not, I could send you one, I have gift cards to use up. Of course it might just be easier for you to purchase one on amazon. Just a thought.
Yes, I found it. Or at least I think I did. I was curious about the opening though. It seemed big and you couldn’t adjust it. How has it worked for you so far?
http://www.petmountain.com/photos/product/giant/114420S584153/interactive-cat-toys/kong-active-cat-treat-ball.jpg
Is this the one you got?
The opening is rather big, but you know how it has the inside tube part with the hole in it? I put the treats inside there, and then put the lid on so that when I twisted it shut, the hole on the inside tube is on the opposite side from the hole in the ball, so the treats had to come out of the inside tube and work there way around the ball to the hole.
It works rather well for me. :0
I didn’t actually buy it, but yes that is the I saw. If you are having success with it then maybe I will buy it. I was hesitant because the opening seemed so big.
I got my buns the Toys R Us toy. I remembered seeing your post when I saw it in the store buying hay and willow balls. I couldn’t resist. Moogle has them all figured out but the orange one. I am giving it to Ashe soon.
I got this 2 pack at PetValu for maybe $4? Hard plastic, holds 1/4 cup of rabbit feed, 2-3 pieces come out with each nudge, it’s how my boys eat their pellets every day!

Jessie – That’s awesome! Pretty soon they will be marketing this thing for rabbits! LOL
Cooper – I think I saw those at Petsmart as well. I will take another look when I go there again.
The only problem with them marketing these type of toys for rabbits is when they do, they area a lot more expensive then the ones for dogs.
LBJ10-Have your rabbits figured out the orange flap yet?
LOL, you’re probably right!
Leopold has figured the orange thing out. The Teach N Treat has a disk that slides in underneath the edges. The rabbit is supposed to push it around with their nose to get the food. Well, Leopold just jabs his lower teeth underneath the disk so he can get a hold of it and he yanks it completely out! LOL So he does pretty much the same thing with the orange thing on this toy. Wooly, on the other hand, seems to have trouble understanding that he can’t move it simply by digging at it.
If your bun is having trouble, try putting it on there loosely at first so they can “accidentally” get it off. Then you can put it in there more snugly so they have to actually work at it.
Yeah, Moogle cAn get it off if it’s barely twisted on, but I’m trying to work on making it tougher.
Strangely Ashe, our very intelligent rabbit, doesn’t seem very interested in the toy.
Jessie – Perhaps Ashe is just too smart to be amused so easily? =p
lol maybe, but I think she just has trouble staying focused… unless it’s one corner of my room. She is very funny. She is uncomfortable with being touched at first, but warms up after the first “groom session” each day. And when I put the toy in her room, she just binkied around it in circles for a good 10 minutes. So I’m not sure if she liked it just being there or if she was just excited because it was her turn to be let out. I will just let her have it after she calms down a bit today.
