› Forum › HOUSE RABBIT Q & A › Update! Lulu wont eat and vet is closed! HELP!
I cam home from youth group and I saw a post about someones bunny who died. After I read it I got up to go to the bathroom and had a strange thought that I shoul check on my bunnies. and sure enough, Lulu was crammed inbetween a basket and a bin and looked beloaded! I gave her a treat and she wouldn’t eat it. I picked her up and gave her a belly message and her butt, feet, and tail were wet and smelled like pee, but the carpet didn’t have any pee on it. I have tried banana and she took a nibble and left the rest( right now as we speak she sniffed the banana like she wanted to eat it and licked it a little but then left it) I am wondering about her teeth! I gave her 1 1/2 cm of simithicon and a belly message and separated her from mocha because he kept humpng her. she will hop around a little but then just sits in the loaf. The vets are closed and I don’t know what to do. HELP! Sorry, I hope this makes since but I am so spastic right now I can’t think
Give her a clean litter box so you can monitor her waste, try to syringe feed her some water so she doesn’t get dehydrated. If she has a tummy issue, water could help. Try to get her moving if you can, if she has a bit of a blockage movement can help get it going.
Keep offering her some of her favorites to see if she gets her appetite back.
Keep a close eye on her, and call the vet first thing int he morning if there is no improvement.
Vibes to Lulu!
Oh no!!! I don’t know much about this but I really hope Lulu is okay, ((((((vibes))))))
I just had this problem with Powder yesterday! He wouldn’t eat even craisins and his little tummy was bloated and he wasn’t moving around at all like normal. I gave him tummy massages every hour for about 10 minutes and got up in the middle of the night, as well as first thing in the morning to check on him – after the third tummy massage he went and peed and dropped 3 pellets on the floor (but I will forgive him not using the litter box) and in the morning he was OK. Hope your baby gets over it like mine did. ((((((LULU)))))))
I have a fresh litter box and water bowel. I have been meaning to buy syringes for a long time but haven’t. The only syringe I have is the one that came with the simithicone so I can’t give her water. I gave some banana which is her favorite. I am going to get some parsley right after I post this. I am not sure how long she hasn’t eaten for. I don’t remember seeing her eat any veggies, I just kind of guessed she did. Also she does not want to be touched. She will not stand for the belly messages she just runs away and loafs in a corner. She took the simithicone like a treat so i guess she liked that. right now she is loafed in a corner with her eyes have open but I can tell she is not comfortable.
also. I don’t even know if I know how to belly message her the right way!
What I did for Powder was just put my hands on both sides of his tummy while he was loafed and gently stroke up and down his tummy in little circular motions. After he felt that it was helping, he actually flopped onto his side so I could reach the rest of his tummy. He usually doesn’t let me touch his stomach _at all_ without running away, but I guess it felt good with his stomach ache.
ok. going to try that right now!
Oh my goodness! I just did that and I could feel every bone in her body! She feels anorexic! I think she just is poofinf out her fur to make her self look bigger. This isn’t normal right! HELP
I had my mom feel her. She said she didn’t feel that skinny. I think I am panicking. I gave her a raisin and she pit it then spit it out. she wants to eat but wont! She is in the living room. she hopped around a living room but she is now just loafing under the coffee table I have parsley and hay next to her right now.
I feeling her right now and I think she is skinnier then normal
sorry for all the posts. Just gave her water out of the simithincon syringe. I washed it out first though. I just don’t know how much water I can give her!
Don’t freak out – I can feel Powders ribs and spine when I did that too but I know he’s at a healthy weight cause he’s still at the weight the vet said was fine, you just get to feel more of their bones when you’re doing what you normally don’t. Let a vet check her out in the morning to determine if she’s underweight. Just be calm for her and keep her comfy. Animals can pick up your emotions and you freaking will cause her to be more uncomfortable. I was up half the night worried sick, but I forced myself to stay calm with him
Edit: For water, my vet said to just drop a little in Powders mouth after his neuter because he wasn’t drinking for three days. Ours suggested a dropper full, so about… oh I have a syringe so i’ll measure it out – about 1.5CCs would be what my vet suggested for my 6lb male.
hmm ok. not sure how much we gave her. We may have given her a little more
I’m not an expert on stomach issues at all seeing it’s never happened but if the syringe thingy is not enough, you could try dipping your fingers in water and holding in front of her. Mine always licks water off me. Also someone on here once suggested leaving the water on the vegetables when you feed it to them to help them intake more. So I’ve been doing that with mine ever since and he rarely uses the water bottle (that I see anyway). ((Healing vibes))
if she doesn’t have gas is it ok to give her simithicon?
Edit: never mind I found out the answer
update! She is drinking on her own out of a bowel!
yay!
Update! She ate for the first time! She had 2 diced papaya treats. She has drank a lot on her own too! She still refuses her raisins, parsley, romaine lettuce, and hay though. I am just praying she will eat some more tonight and get better, or make it until 8am when the vet opens. If she is not doing good in the morning would you call right when they open or drive to the vet and take her in right when they open? because it takes us 45min to get to our vet so I couldn’t get there until 8:45-9:00. any thoughts?
Now I am hoping to get some sleep. Should I wake up every hour to give her simithicone or will she be ok?
I would just drive there. Often vets will make time for emergencies. If she is doing better though, it might be safe to just call when they open.
ok, thanks. should i wake up ebery hour to give her simithicone or not?
I think you should be okay to sleep. Maybe wake up early though
ok. my alarm is set for 7:35AM! Thanks for all your help! I hope I didn’t keep you awake! It is 2AM here!
Nah, I don’t go to bed til like 8 am anyway
I would call your vet and leave a message saying what is happening and that you will be on the road to reach them by the time they open. Receptionists will be there before opening and probably checking messages so they will probably try to get things ready to see you. Hopefully you wake up and everything is fine though! Hope you were able to get some sleep!
Haha! Ok. Thanks for your help! I will keep you updated!
Healing vibes for Lulu…
I woke up this morning to the sound of Lulu chomping on her veggies! I was so happy! I didn’t know if she had been eating hay yet though, but as we are speaking she is munching on hay. I just turned on the light and their are poops in the litter box and in her bed! I am so happy! She is desperately trying to get the ramp down so she can go up to the second level and I think I am going to let her up. If she is doing better I wont have to take her to the vet, right?
I’m glad she’s eating now. I would just keep a close eye on her, as long as she’s pooping and eating and acting normal, I wouldn’t bring her to the vet. The simethicone probably did the trick.
So glad she’s doing better! Phew! Continued vibes that she’s 100% a-ok!
I’m glad she’s better but you mention that she was sitting in her urine, this leads me to believe a possible Urinary Tract Infection. I would watch for that – is she straining to urinate, is she peeing outside the litterbox when she is normally good with the litterbox, etc….just monitor that as well.
Yay glad Lulu is better
Sarita: she had pee all over her bum tail and feet. also I just noticed last night at 2AM their was pee in the corner of the top level of the condo and the pee ran all the way down my wall. The bunnies have NEVER peed on the top level of the condo. they have peed right next to the litter box before when one bunny is guarding the box. I will keep a very close eye on her and see if she has trouble peeing. Could have that caused the stomach problems?
UTIs are painful, so yeah it could have. My cousin just got finished being treated for a UTI himself, he said he doesn’t wish that pain on anyone, hurts stomach and also I guess the uh, more sensitive areas a lot.
She has peed since she has been sick. I woke up and her bed was wet. I haven’t seen her pee, but her stomach is back to normal annd her fur isn’t puffed out like it was yesterday. I am afraid to leave her, I hope she is ok!
With a UTI they do pee, but it takes more effort than normal and in humans it comes with a burning sensation when they pee – in rabbits it can lead to loss of litter habits, straining to pee, etc. Just try to watch her over the next few days and see if you notice any of the symptoms of her having difficulty going to the box.
But, saying that, Powder bounced right back and I didn’t take him to the vet. He’s right back to normal and fingers crossed neither he nor Lulu have this problem again for a LONG time!
ok. i will watch her. her poops are still really small
Maybe you could call your vet and see what they think? How do they test for UTI’s on bunnies?
well my parents are very anti vet. if she is acting normal they most likely not let me take her in. i am not even dure if she is ja ing trouble peeing
I’m not big on running to the vet often either, but you might be able to call and explain whats going on, see if its something they think is serious. My vet will usually chat with me if I’m worried about something.
well I will see if i can ask.
You said her bed was wet? Is that abnormal for her? if so, this does make me worry that this is a UTI.
Agreed, if her bed is wet, and she peed where she doesn’t usually, I would think UTI as well.
LOL, It is normal for her to pee in her bed. I normal never put I bed in their cage because of that, but I thought since she was sick I would give one to her. She is totally back to normal today. Ate her pellets last night and veggies this morning and hay!
