I’m avoiding my mum’s house right now, since my annoying brother is there and I don’t particularly want to spend anymore time than required with him, so I thought I’d post a bunny update.
I got Lily into her NIC cage, but it’s only 2×2 right now. she has a playpen that she has access to for most of the day, but because of size restrictions at the moment, her living area is only 2×2. Once the holiday season is over and done with, and I have a bit more time to fuss with furnature, I’ll be making it larger, but this is bigger than what she was in, so it’s some improvement! She has a shelf, but doesn’t use it. I bought a cheap plastic stacking shelf to use as a hay rack, and that’s one of her favourite places to sit, but she also enjoys lounging in her litter box, and laying underneath the “hay rack” (I zip tied it to the cage so that the mouth of the storage box is level with the top of the litter box).
As far as litter training goes, I put the box in, and she’s been going in it. No muss, no fuss. I’ve found possibly a dozen poops outside the box since putting it in with her.
She’s got a couple funny tufts of hair coming out by her bum, but I’m assuming that has to do with her being part lionhead. She’s starting to get what might be a mane, but it’s a little early to be able to tell for sure.
She loves the dog, absolutely adores him. His favourite place to lie is directly beside her cage, and she’ll come over and visit with him quite often. At this point she seems far more wary of me than she does of the dog! She has started coming to me for scratches though, and will eat food from my hands. She really likes seedless watermelon and cantelope, and she LOVES dandelion greens. As far as the water drinking problem, she’s started drinking water from the bottle now that I’ve cut back on her veggies, so it seems she was just getting her hydration from the veg. I’ve started increasing the amount of veg that she gets.
I switched her to a new hay, I actually bought it at walmart and like it much better than the Kaytee stuff I bought her at first. The Kaytee stuff was very stemmy, and Lily left the majority of it. She seems to be thoroughly enjoying the new stuff, and it’s much easier for me to handle. The new stuff comes out in flakes, whereas I had to battle with the Kaytee to get it from the bag.
All in all, Lily seems to be settling in well. I’ve had her about a month now, and she’s grown so much! She’s approaching the 3mth mark and is very curious about everything… She stole a piece of wrapping paper from me last night, and I think she enjoyed playing keep away as I tried to get it from her without scaring her too much, lol.
