› Forum › THE LOUNGE › SCARY NIGHT!!! I’m not going to sleep tonight!
Okay, so I’m writing this right now partly to share this crazy experience, but also to distract myself because a few minutes ago we heard a car speed down our street with police in hot pursuit, then the driver crashed into parked car, and got out of the car and ran off, but the police surrounded the block and on loud speaker announced this- “Residents – lock your doors and windows!!” and they were screaming for people to get into their houses (to the ones that didn’t hear it clearly and just opened their doors and stepped outside to see what was going on)
So we ran and locked all of our doors and windows. It seems now that they think the person has run into a house about five houses down from us on our side of the street and they are demanding s/he come out. So hopefully either s/he lives there, and didn’t just go into someone’s home and who knows if he is really in there. They are using police dogs right now, and I can’t see if they have their guns drawn or not, but I’m a litle freaked out now listening to every sound around the house and peeking out the window the best I can. (like I can see all my other neighbors little eyeballs doing through their windows). Gah!!! Not much sleep tonight if they don’t catch whoever it is. I’m a Nervous Norvis.
Eep! Hopefully it turns out well! Monkey’s crossing her ears for luck. Go get some bun snuggles with Jack and Viv, they’ll keep ya company while you wait.
*snuggles*
Thanks Monkeybun! Off for some bunny snuggles for a bit to stop obsessing over what’s going on outside my window. My husband is like….”eh, that’s fine…lock the window, the doors and let’s chill…no biggie.” He’s always so calm.
hehe my hubby would be right beside me all freaked. we’re too much alike i think :p Enjoy the bunny snuggles!
Oh crap! Hope you all stay safe and that it’s over soon! Glad you’re not on your own. I can understand about not sleeping – even after it’s over. ADRENALINE!
Now my hearts going. I’m going to be watching this thread. It’s only early evening here. You better post when it’s over!
I wish it were over!! They must still be trying to catch him or make him surrender or ??? because they still have the streets all blocked off. I don’t even see police peoples anymore – just all their cars still lit up – looks like a carnival of lights through curtains/blinds. Maybe their just faking this for some major donut run. But seriously…where the heck are they all? It’s quiet, it’s been quiet…too quiet. I wish I knew what was going on. Everyone’s backyards are connected so closely – our houses around here are so close that it just makes me nervous and everyone’s house around here has crawl space access that go underneath the house (where the water pump is – we are just about 3 feet above the water table so everyone has the pump and the access doors…so easy for a criminal to hide in there.) Okay…now I seriously need to stop freaking myself out. I’ll keep you updated.
Even hubby finally said…”Well, yeah, I’m not too excited about going to sleep either with all of this #$% going on.” So at least we will be up together.
oh, no! that’s terrible. hope thing gone soon. and, you’d better stay away from the window. there is not very safe, as glass is not as solid as wall.
Oh good your back. You went offline and my imagination….
The Police should come do a door knock once it is over wouldn’t they? I’m wondering if it’s being broadcast on your local news?
edit: Oh, maybe not due to the time. Is it 3am there? The time stamp on the posts says 3am. Hopefully they’ve got the personed cornered at the one premesis so he/she won’t be going anywhere. Hopefully.
No, the police won’t inform anyone when it’s over, they’ll just leave when it’s over….so I’m waiting for them to leave. However, if there was still a person on the loose but couldn’t catch, they would stick around and/or inform residents to be on the look out and be safe. I’m sure we’ll hear a little blurb about it, but unfortunately, I’m sure other things around the bay area are happening too, just one incident among many – just that this one happens to be close to us.
Edited to add: Oh, yes, Jersey – it’s 3:19am here.
Steve actually looked up our local police department online and signed up for Emergency & Evacuation phone notifs – so if there is a local Amber Alert (when a child gets kidnapped) or if residents have to be evacuated then they will make a mass call notifs about it.
Well, ironically it’s comforting to know someone else on the other side of the world is here with us in spirit.
do you keep enough food? that’s not natural disaster, so water supply should be normal.
Oh, no Lancy, this isn’t something that will be that dramatic – where we’d be locked in our homes for days. I was just noting that this made Steve go to the police department site online and he happened to notice the notif sign-up for IF there were that type of natural disaster/mass evacuation/emergency thingamajig – this situation wouldn’t be considered that. If that’s what you were referring to..??
oh, i’ve been over sensitive, since the earth quake last year…
Well, ironically it’s comforting to know someone else on the other side of the world is here with us in spirit.
Yep. Me & Lancy! haha. Obviously I’m in Australia. Lancy’s in China. Speaking of spirits……….I’d be pouring a stiff drink when it’s over, Be over already! (((be safe vibes )))
Oh, gotcha – we do have an earthquake survival kit – we do need to update it though. Also, what earth quake last year? Are you talking about the San Francisco Bay Area or ???. I don’t remember a severe earthquake – just some little shakers – good reminders though.
OHHHH! I didn’t realize lancy was in China – shows I’m out of touch a bit with some members. Well, I won’t forget now!
earth is a small village
Was it really last year Lancy. Feels like it was more recent. But I remember now, it happen before the Olympics didn’t it. I remember watching some of the aftermath here in Australia. I also remember the Tsunami and Sept 11. Feels like not so long ago. Those things stay with you.
Was the earthquake in you region?
Yikes! I’m just catching up… hope everything turned out ok! That is scary (((hugs!)))
er… if it hasn’t gotten resolved, i hope everything will turn out ok. I forgot about the time difference… it’s 7am over here
You are right lancy! The earth is a small village. OH, which reminds me of the new National Geographic TV series. “The Human Family Tree” http://channel.nationalgeographic.com/channel/human-family-tree. It’s where they take dna sample from a ton of people and show not only where they originate from but the path their ancient ancestors took. Rather amazing really how much we are all connected! Sort of off topic, but I just am distracting myself since the police are still here. BE OVER ALREADY!
anyway… I am grateful for the internet – brings the earth village closer. And Jersey – yes, a round of stiff drinks when this is over.
Well, I think I will sign off for now. I’m sure I will be sleeping in tomorrow since I can’t sleep tonight, but I’ll post with updates later in the day.
that’s not in my region. China is almost the similar size as Australia, the disaster happend ~2000 km away from my city. thousands people were killed, even more injured and homeless. i once thought about to fly there and do something i could. but i made a more realistic decision to donate some money and cloths. we also received help from all over the world: goverments, companies and individuals. so, i should say “thanks” here
Ok BB. Hope you get some rest. (((Peaceful vibes)))
Lancy – 2000 km away or not – I expect you feel it’s impact as a human being – that happening to your countrymen.
I’ll keep my fingers croossed for you, BinkyBunny. and give you this pic, see, jerseygirl, you and me, we are related
Haha Likely we are! I saw a program on that dna connections – amazing. Really throws that misused term “Race” out the window!
Well – I’ll be checking in on this thread tomorrow for BB’s update!
Well, one last little update to share for now – 4 police cars just left and the blockade car at the end of our street is gone. There are still several police cars a few houses down, but it looks like they are dealing with whatever is going on in the house and the cars (the one they were chasing that crashed and the one that it crashed into) They seem rather calm now, so hopefully all has settled down. I am sure I will find out in tomorrow – if not, I’ll just call the police department to get an update. Geesh what a night. Thanks for hanging out with me!
Oh good to see things are settling. This thread became a chat room!
jerseygirl: yes, i do feel. i hate people got killed, not only for my countrymen, but for all people in the world. i have similar feeling about people killing animals for unacceptable reasons.
2000 km is not the main reason why i diid go there. first, the earth quake happend in Sichuan province, there only 2 roads to there. ( if you can find a chinese man, let him read this sentence for you and tell you what that mean: shu3 dao4 nan2, nan2 yu2 shang4 qing1 tian1 ). airplans were hard to land either.
second, they needed experimced people, like doctors, nurses, soldier, not labor. unfortunately, i’m a teacher. the best i can do is to be a labor.
I keep meaning to sign off! I really mean it this time! LOL. Lancy – my sister-in-law and my best friend are Chinese, and my brother is fluent in mandarin – so one of those three should be able to tell us what that means.
I remember feeling so heartbroken watching what happened over there. I’m so sorry.
BinkyBunny, so you got advantages, haha~ maybe tommorrow, you would explain it to jerseygirl
Yipes!! Just got all this. Are you okay now? All’s well on the home front?
Wow, BB what a night! I do know you like to keep those late nights but really :~) Glad you are all safe and I hope your sleept was restful despite all that police activity.
BB – I hope you eventually got some sleep.
I would have been up for hours too. And gone for a stiff drink!
OMG *HUGS** That’s scary!! I hope all is well now! And someone tell me what that sentance means!
We had a few incidents like that here-and it’s shocking to Dave and I because we are from Sherwood Park, a little hamlet near Edmonton-so all the action in Edmonton when we moved there-scary!
I used to have cops all the time up and down my road when I lived downtown-including swat team coming into my apartment while I was in the shower looking for some molester(quite embarassing-and then it turned out they were looknig for a ghost becasue the girl later said she made it up)
-when we were in the apartment, police were always there too-one time with dogs looking for a bank robber (I got slammed back in my car by a handler-said the dog was out and I could get hurt -stay put!)-Then there was the time I got home to find a car still running in my stall-furious I called towing to get it removed and double parked it in so it couldn’t pull away (one am on a work night-I was not impressed) turned out it was stolen and I had to talk to police until four am…
And then I guess there was a big drug bust down the road from our new house -totally slept through helicopter and swat team was there all night!!
Anyways let us know what you find out-and that your good and got some rest!
Oh
Wow, KK. Exciting life you got there
I haven’t had anythign nearly as exciting. Except someone parkign their car in our computer room. While I was in it.
wow, scary.
what an experience nobody wants to experience.
I hope everything turns out okay.
Oh wow, KK, your life sounds interesting to say the least. Stay safe!!!
And BB, hope you finally got some sleep!
Monkeybun, someone drove into your house?!? Were you all ok? I’m sure that it was a huge hassle cleaning everything up… But it makes for a funny story Surprisingly, the car in the house story isn’t that uncommon… my friend’s dad owns a small apartment, and a couple years ago, some little old lady drove her car right into the side of apartment building!
That’s so scary! I hope you got some sleep BB, and things are better today! What a night and what a mess! I hope everyone is safe and all bad guys have been caught! KK, those incidents! Oh my!
It scary as heck, I can tell ya that. i was at my computer desk int eh window she drove through. Luckily she hit the corner of it rather than driving straight through, or I’d have landed my self in the hospital for quite awhile. Just got a really banged up leg out of it. We have since changed apartments, to one on the 2nd floor, not facing the parking lot lol. Now we just gotta worry about trees and airplanes coming through the widows lol. And as it happens… the city is cutting down some trees just outside O.o
So we called the police today to find out what happened. They never caught the guy, but they were able to identify him. All we know is just some white guy – so that doesn’t give us much to go on, but he’s probabably long gone by now, and at least they know exactly who he is. He is not local – meaning not from the city I live in. The story so far is: They were doing a routine traffic stop somewhere, and the the guy booked, so then they chased him all around and he ended up in our neighborhood. They didn’t give the details over the phone though of why he was running. He could have a record etc, or just could have been on drugs, or since he’s not from here, may have warrants in other places so they are still piecing it all together.
And HOLY COW KK and Monkey — now THOSE are scary incidents!
I got some nice pics of the SUV parked there :p
Geez just now seeing this. Glad your okay!
I remember your tread about the car parked in your spot KK. You were SO mad
LOL YUP-just like me-“what jerk would do this, while I’ll show ’em-I’ll box them in” -Totally, I must have genius IQ!!
Thanks all-but none of them were really scary-except maybe the swat team coming in my apartment-mostly because I was heard a bang while getting out of the shower and thought some weirdo had broken in Instead…cute swat guys LOL
I missed it! I was on line here last night, but so early compared to you, BB. I was in my jammies when it all started. Glad jersey and lancy were there to keep you company.
Haven’t caught him yet? Any word on tonight’s six o’clock news? (It’s 5:50 here now.)
Rabbitpam – I would really be suprised if this was on the news unless he was some infamous criminal. I think it’s just because we live in the Bay Area. There is enough crime between Oakland and San Francisco that this wouldn’t be news worthy unless it happened to be a slow night – doubt that very much. But we’ll be checking the local paper or at least the police blog.
Poor BB! I’m so glad you’re okay! At least you had your hubby to sit up with you right there, (and the board members who were online, sorry I wasn’t!), it woudl’ve been terrible to go through all that by yourself!
My hubby is an ex-Marine and has this terrible ‘shy gene’ that in any dicey situation he will be marching straight up to find out what’s going on and do anything he can to help. ^_^ If that had been our neighborhood, he would’ve thrown his hand in the whole mess.
I get really nervous whenever he’s away, simply because we live so far outside town, it would take forever for the police to get here in an incident, depending if they even deemed it worthy of response.
It’s about 5 PM AK time. Any news?
so, good news is good news
How different it is in the light of day!
BB, between checking in on updates last night, I walked into my dark bathroom, tripped on a pair of shoes and nearly screamed! I got a bit caught up in it all.
Wonder how those neighbours up the road are feeling about it all today…
