I was feeding the bunnies kaytee timothy complete pellets but then they were out today when I went to buy more and they had zupreem nature’s promise pellets there and they were made from timothy and seemed like they were really good so I picked up two 5 lb bags.  I still have a little bit left of the old stuff so I mixed some with the new so that they can get adjusted..but what I was wondering was if this is a good brand and if it’s maybe better then the kaytee timothy complete stuff?  The kaytee timothy complete are the ones that are JUST pellets by the way, no crunchy things or seeds.

It’s funny that you mention zupreem because just the other day I saw it sitting next to Oxbow, and compared the fiber and nutrients and it seemed good very good. I did not look any further into the ingredients, so I’ll have to take a closer look next time I’m there. I’ll also do a check on the net and see what I can find.

Regardless of what you choose, be sure to change the old pellet with new over a few weeks time.

Okay, so I actually found a comparison of zupreem vs Oxbow – Check it out  – it is interesting.  Also, keep in mind, this is one person’s point of view.

The expert there was worried about the sugary contents (Corn gluten meal, Ground corn, Dried beet pulp) of Zupreem, but Oxbow has Cane Molasses in it so not sure how that compares with the corn meal and beet pulp.   Just more research to do.

Ohhhh  I was feeding Zupreem and thought the fiber was lower. I guess I should have taken my reading glasses with me.  Oh well since it has the same amount of fiber as Oxbow I can go back to Zupreem cause they sell it at the pet store right down the street..  Gee guess my eyesight is really going  shabby on tiny print. Hehehee.

Yeah it being down the street is closer so I dont’ have to go all across the river on a long bus ride for Oxbow.  Yet this local pet store does run out of Zupreem too.  That would not be good.

But you know I dont’ want to keep changing their pellets around either. Just when they get used to 1 brand I switch to another.  Well I got plenty of Oxbow to last about 2 months

I just wanted to pop in and add that we had a member do some extensive research on caloric content of some pellets that I thought you might be interested in too:

Sarita also posted a really interesting read on pellets in the discussion too:

Some time ago someon on here mentioned that Zupreem was giving away free small bags of their pellets. It was actually a decent sized trial package but none of my buns would eat them.

MIne are loving it and I don’t know how well my mixing is really going because Tucker will only eat the new ones now.  She might be getting a stray one of the old ones in but she’s really good about picking and choosing.

Luckily she doesn’t really have a sensitive digestive system so I think she’ll be ok with it that way.

Drue is a chow down type of bunny and he devours both the old and the new but I do see him getting much more excited when I open the zupreem bag then when I did the kaytee bag.  The zupreem smells a lot more and it’s so much more GREEN then the kaytee brand.  I don’t think I had ever really seen green pellets.

When I first got Drue he came with these pellets that both bunnies went NUTS for..I didn’t actually give them to Tucker but she got to the bag once and ate a hole through it because she just had to have them.  They were given to me in ziplock though and I wasn’t told what they were.  If I describe them maybe some of you who’ve used different ones would know?

They were like a darkish brown color and they were short and fatter then the kaytee pellets or the zupreem pellets are.  They were almost balls but not quite..they were still cylindrical..just squatter then most I’ve seen.  Any idea what these could be??  If I could get those maybe I will eventually switch to those.  I’m a BIT worried about finding zupreem since I went to my petstore again last night for hay and they were OUT of the zupreem!  I was going to pick up more bags while I was there since the buns are liking them but they were out.  I don’t like the idea of something selling out…I’m gonna have to look online for a good place to buy pellets from I think!

places will sell out of stuff from time to time, that’s actually a GOOD thing b/c that means their product is getting turned over… i’d be more worried if the same bag of pellets was sitting on the shelf for 6 months straight with a layer of dust on it… you could avoid this by always having one spare bag. when you open into that last bag, make sure to go to the store ASAP and purchase another bag to replace it. same thing with hay, i try to make sure i always have extra b/c you never know when they’re gonna go on a sudden “hay kick” where they can’t get enough…

i got the zupreem sample when they had it, i have not even opened it yet, the pellets are much larger than the oxbow. if they like it i might use it as a hand treat since the pieces are bigger…
