Zoe got fixed today but when i went to go pick her up vet said she had to stay. When she was taken out of surgery into recovery she had a seizure and couple hours later she had another seizure. Vet said it could be a bad reaction to the anesthesia. He allowed for me to go in and see her and she was really groggy and wasnt moving they had her still hooked up an IV and a vet assistant had an oxygen mask over her. This is really scary since Chomper’s neuter was nothing like Zoe’s. Her eyes were open though and would move them and whe she heard Luna she moved her eyes to where the voice was coming from. so that means she’s responsive right? Is this in any way something that “could” happen after a spay????? Im gonna take her little bed and blanky later on, when her vet is there, maybe having something from home will comfort her and make her feel better.

I’m sorry to hear Zoe is suffering some complications. Of course, any surgery has risks, but since I have never had to spay a rabbit, I’ll just say that it is good to have it done, which you already know, and that she is appearing to respond to people around her is a good sign.
I think bringing things from home is an excellent idea. I always take my bunnies favorite toy to the vet with them. Even if it’s just for a day visit. I think it does help.
Healing vibes for dear Zoe on the way ((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((vibes)))))))))))))))))))))))), I hope she recovers quickly and is home with you and happily binkying very soon. (although you will notice that she is less mobile at first, she may need pain meds, and probably won’t be as interested in eating and drinking or pottying right away…some of this is normal)
          Hang in there, Moz!

            Oh so sorry…vibes to Zoe.

Like MM said, there are always risks. I think bringing familiar things from home is a great idea.

Zoe is still hospitalized but she is no longer with oxygen, so she is a bit better but is still really groggy and isnt standing up just moves her little head around. She still with IV and she took a small nibble from some parsley we took her so thats a good sign. vet said she will probably stay until tuesday to make sure she is okay and doesnt have any more seizures. I took her a ziploc bag with a bunch of orchrad hay and alfalfa so that maybe like that she feels enticed to eat. Hopefully I get to bring her home before tuesday Chomper is really missing her. =(

                      Aww poor Zoe.

It is a good thing that she is still hospitalized because good, experienced people are looking after her and making sure that she bounces back.

My bunny was at the vets for 2 days. I was worried sick

Spays can be very hard on the rabbits in some cases. It is good the vet is keeping her there. I wish for her to pull through fast!

Best wishes to Zoe! She’s been through a lot giving birth to successive litters, and nursing so much, her body is probably weakened. Since she’s improving that’s a good sign! One of my cats had a negative reaction to the anesthesia the day after her operation and starting drooling buckets of water out of her mouth, I had to take her for an overnight stay in the ER. So stressful! Just keep positive, she’s in good hands and since she pulled through the surgery she may just need some extra healing time.

I’m sorry to hear Zoe hasn’t had an easy time of it. My babies’ mom had to go to an even more specialized vet for her spay, due to having had a litter, so I bet Zoe having successive litters AND being a foster mum have probably taken quite a bit out of her. Nose bonks and hugs, hope she’s back on her feet soon.

Zoe is still hospitalized, yesterday she had another seizure, vet is gonna do some test today to see if it could be something else besides a really bad side affect of the anesthesia. She was up already though, couldnt really hop around cuz couldnt keep her balance and is really weak.

Her spay was done by a more specialized vet, her vet which was the one that did chomper’s neuter and the one who is gonna speuter all the kits when old enough reccomended him to me. Vet was able to catch a heart arrythmia on Zoe so they are checking to see if her seizures could be due to this. I feel shes gonna be okay though, she has to, shes a really strong bun and active. Went to go see her early today and she was shaking the bars of her cage. lol, she leaned agaisnt the door and then would grab it with her mouth and shake it. Vet couldnt stop laughing. Thats Zoe’s way of letting you know she wants outside time or wants to be carried. i was able to carry her even thought she is still hooked on to the IV and she right away gave kisses. I think she might be feeling lonely in there so i asked her vet if Chomper’s could go visit for a while or maybe one of the kits she LOVES the kits she spends alot of time with them just laying next to them and grooming them when she’s here in the house. So depending on what vet says and which would be better company for her ill take her somebun to cuddle with for just a little while to get her spirit up a bit.

Did you ask the vet how long it takes for the anaesthetic to be fully cleared out from Zoe’s system?

I havent asked petzy but her surgery was done on friday I would think it would have left her system by now. Vet thinks Zoe might have had this pre-existing condition and we never caught it (heart arrythmia and seizures) vet thinks the anesthesia probably aggrevaed a pre-existing condition. Blood work was done before she had the surgery but everything came out okay. So tomorrow we should know all of this. Oh and her vet called a while ago and shes eating greens and drinking lots of water so thats a good sign. =) still sluggish though.

oh have a question, i noticed yesterday one of Zoe’s kits looks down all he/she does is lay down and isnt as active. Yesterday I took him/her out of the cage and he just layed down on the bed. After a while i put him/her back in and it ate a little bit and drank some water but then layed back down again. Today the same thing, should i separate him/her from the rest of the litter to observe better his/her eating routine and bowel movements ? When i take him her out of the cage he goes and huddles in the corner of my bed and after a while starts hopping around like if nothing is wrong but once i put him/her back in the cage he goes back to laying down and doesnt move at all, can there be something wrong and he just hides it when im observing him out of the cage?? The other kits literally bounce off the walls of the cage, doing binkies and playing around sometimes even trampling over him/her and still doesnt move.

What’s it’s breathing like? Maybe it is just quieter or thats how it copes with the others being boisterous. Has it always been like this or just lately? I’m also wondering if it’s missing Zoe?

One of our members here had complications with her Doe’s spay. The found out she had a a heart murmer so treated this. After some months it was then safe for them to try spay again and it was successful. I hope Zoes condition has a good outcome like that.

How old are the babies? They are weaned already?

I would take that one in to be seen. Something doesn’t sound right.

It’s breathing seems normal, and this behvaior is recent. From the get- go its been the type that DOES NOT like being picked up but was active and non-stop like the others. I was thinking the same thing too that maybe he misses Zoe?? but he has his litter mates….. oh and no they arent weaned yet Beka they are 1 month, but im hand feeding them because vet said it was gonna be really hard for Zoe. She stopped feeding them on the 10th thats when the vet told me to not let Zoe feed them anymore. They get an assortment of hay everday, timothy, alfalfa, and orchard, plus their pellets.

If it is a recent change, I would be worried. Might be an idea to take the poor little baby in for a check up.

ZOE’S BACK HOME!!! I picked her up a little while ago, I got her all set in into her little bed in the closet, lol, she likes it in there and i dont know why. She isnt walking around yet and is still a bit weak but she does look waaaaaay better. Im really happy shes back home, and Luna is too, Luna thinks Zoe sleeps in her closet in order to keep the “monsters” away, so these past few days she’s been sleeping with me since she was scared cuz Zoe wasnt in there. I did a little enclosure for her around her bed with NIC grids so she wont be trying to move around and put her water and food in there with her. chomper is scratching on the closet door because he knows she’s in there but i dont think Zoe is up for playing right now.
