Okay guys so Zoe is giving me a headache already, if its not one thing its another, its frustrating since Chomper is sooooooooooooooooooo well behaved. He is so mellow and loves to play his pretty much a very well behaved bunny, well im lying his a nipper he is sometimes not up to me picking him up so he will nip me, which is like a papercut, small and insignificant but hurts like no tomorrow. Anyways Zoe has been misbehaving since yesterday, last night she wouldnt let me sleep she shook the cage door all night, she was trying to get out which i dont know why since she has ALWAYS slept in her cage, she got so mad that I didnt let her out that she started stomping her back legs REALLY hard and LOUD!! kinda got scared when i heard it. Right now she started the shaking of the cage door again its 11:20pm and she is at it again PLUS she now has started biting this plastic side latch the cage has to hold the top of the cage to the base. she has basically bit through it, which is not good because thats what holds the top of the cage to the base. I tried putting applecider vinegar to see if she would stay away from it but she sniffed it and started licking it off and went on to keep on bitting it. So i put some lemon drops on it…. didnt work either she looked at what i was doing hopped on over and even tried to take the lemon from my hand! what can i do so that she wont destroy her cage. If she breaks those plastic latches on the side of the cage the top will not be stable and will have to find replacements. Right now I put her in a small wire cage, but i cant keep her there since I imagine that it must not be so comfortable to sleep in a wire bottom cage. She’s pretty much really mad right now she is shaking the cage uncontrollably and stomping her hind legs against the cage floor which makes a horrible noise. What can have her acting like this? what can i put on the cage so she wont bite the plastic latches? There hasnt been any changes what so ever well my boyfriend moved in with me 3 days ago, but i dont think that could be causing her behavior, right?  she’s been pretty snotty, and wont even give me kisses when i get home she basically just turns around when she sees me coming. In the time i’ve had her she has NEVER acted or misbehaved in this way!!! HELP i need my sleep, i work 12hr shifts

A big change like your bf moving in could definitely be causing her behaviour. It’s not normal for her,a d she is upset that someone new is in her territory.

It is also possible she is just being an unruly teenager. Perhaps its almost time to get her spayed.. I’d get it set up for as soon as the babies are weaned and gone to their new homes.

I agree. If this is the only change and you can’t identify anything else, it could very well be it. A bunny mum would be very protective about her territory. Hopefully she’ll adjust and her hormones will settle a bit now she’s no longer feeding.

Can you temporarily shut her in a bunny proofed room intead of a cage? This is another change for her I know, but it might allow you that needed sleep.

How old is she? Is she spayed yet? To me, it sounds like typical female teenager/hormonal behavior more than anything else. If she’s not spayed yet, I think it’s probably almost time.

Elrohwen, her bunny is the one who had the 3 babies in a pipe in the yard, so she isn’t spayed yet. I’m not entirely familiar with pregnancy/lactation hormones in rabbits and how that affects their behavior either… but when the babies are weaned, she’ll definitely be ready for spaying.

Ahhh, thanks for reminding me Beka – I haven’t been around as much and it’s so hard for me to keep up!

I agree with the others then that it might be caused my the change of your boyfriend moving in, or it could be something hormonal.

I do have a spare room, thats where the babies sleep, so last night i put the babies in my daughters room and moved Zoe to the spare room i woke up at 2am to a sound coming from that room it turns out zoe completey destroyed brand new carpet i had installed 2 months ago! the corners were completey lifted up and chewed on. she had also chewed on the wooden frame of the door!!! (I cant wait to have her spayed!) i let her out cuz i didnt want no further damage done to the room, so she ended up sleeping with me on my bed. Im kinda allergic to their fur so i cant have her sleeping in my room. any other ideas of where i can keep her at night so she wont end up destroying every room in the house? oh and she is no longer nursing, her milk has dried up, vet took a look at her since the babes were loosing weight well turns out she isnt lactating any more. Kinda worried for the babes since they are just 1 month, but they eat ALOT!!!! they eat plenty of alfalfa and timothy hay and pellets so hopefully that will be enough for them. Can i get her spayed now?!!!!!!!

You’d have to ask the vet when you can spay. I’m not really sure.

You can’t keep her in an xpen over night? She doesn’t have to be free roam at night if she’s being destructive.
