Ziggy was first treated Oct 15th for a ear infection with Otomax twice a day for two weeks. Recheck no better she did a culture. After a week I took him to stay at the vet I was having trouble putting his meds in his ears by myself. No better so she tryed Baytril 20 mg 1/2 tab once a day for two weeks. Another culture done no better she tryed Baytril Otic twice a day he had a reaction to it. She said it was no worse or no better and that it was stressing him out. So she said to let it be and see what happens. Not till Jan 3rd did he start digging and scratching his ears and shaking his head. So we went back to the vet on the 7th she gave him Panlog Ointment (animax) twice a day for 14 days then recheck but he is licking everything in site is this  another reaction. Could this be a allergy because he like to sleep under my bed. Sorry this is so long. Please any input would be greatly appeciated.

It is possible he has an allergy to the ointment but I’m honestly not certain if licking would be the result of the allergy.

I’m glad your vet did a culture – that would give a sensitivity results too. I think when in doubt call the vet. I know if you can and she does not think the licking is the result of an allergy to continue him for the full dosage of 14 days.

Are you having trouble administering these ear meds as well?

Not so much this time. I’ve been putting him in the bathroom where he can’t run and hide. I cover him with a towel and squat over him and put my knee’s around him and then I have him stable enough to put his meds in his ears.

it sure sounds like a difficult infection to get out of his system, poor guy! I’m glad to hear you figured out the bathroom trick, anytime you take them some place they’re not used to, they tend to hold still longer. i’m also a fan of counters and tables 😉

I don’t know how sleeping under your bed could be causing the reaction.

I would also recommend calling the vet to check on the side effect, it does seem odd for sure! I haven’t had a bunny on Panalog before, but it doesn’t sound like a normal sort of effect.

I am wondering if under your bed is dusty at all and might have mites, but I am sure the vet would have checked that. I really hope this gets resolved soon, Poor Ziggy!
