        What do you guys think?

Anything I missed?  The zipties are all turned out so none of the cut edges are pointed in towards the cage.  The door of the cage that leads into the pen is tied open.  I don’t THINK he can jump out at that height!

Looks good! What does Zeus think?

So the crate opens on the long side and also the short end leading into the room? That would be very handy. Also the attached pen looks handy for you to drop food in rather than have to put it in thru the crate door. It all looks so neat tucked away in the corner of the room. If only my rabbit stuff wasn’t sprawled across various rooms of the house!

Yeah the crate has two doors, the one leading into his new pen and another on the narrow side, where you can see his little name sign that says “ZEUS”.  It’s definitely handy, because if I want to let him out of his cage, or if I want to clean his litterbox, I just open the front door. .

And yeah, neat is a must in my home!  I live in a studio apartment, a small one at that, so space is at an absolute premium.  If everything isn’t totally organized.. I don’t have room from my bed/futon to the bathroom or something. .

Zeus hasn’t quite decided what he thinks of the pen yet!  He seems to prefer his cage right now and only goes out there if there’s food out there.  But I think in time, when he’s more used to it, he’ll like it more.

Aw! Zeus looks like my Duke. Is he a french lop? I can’t really tell how big he is. Nice setup. Duke has a 2-cube NIC pen too, and he doesn’t try to jump over.

I’m not 100% sure on his breed.. I think he’s either a French Lop or a French Lop/Mini Lop cross. .

And you’re right!  From your little profile pic they definitely look alike!

Yeah Duke is about 14 lbs lol. Zeus’ ears look like they may be a little bit shorter, so he may be a mix. He’s super cute.

That’s much better than what he had! Nice job on attaching the pen!

Judging on the NIC grid dimensions, the total space is just over 2×4 feet? My honest opinion is that the space is still on the small side. In your other thread you mentioned that he is approximately 10 pounds, and for a rabbit that large you’d really want a minimum of 4×4 feet. I know space is limited in your apartment, so this is the best you can do at this point… but just a note for the future. If you ever figure out a way to either rearrange furniture (or assuming you don’t live in this apartment for his entire lifetime), I’d encourage you to try and make something larger eventually.

In the meantime, you said he is free range during the day, so for a night pen, I think that should work out okay.

Oh okay, then yeah I’d probably guess he’s a mix then!  I’m not familiar with French Lops so it’s nice to talk to someone who has a purebred!

The total space he has now is actually 4×3 feet, although it does taper down to almost 2 feet on the far right end.  The pen is not perfectly square although it appears that way in the photo. .

As for future improvements, I really have no more room to expand the pen in my current apartment.  With my futon folded down for sleeping there’s enough room for a path from the futon to the bathroom, to the kitchen, and to the closet, and that’s it.    But like you said, if I end up in a different housing situation in the future I may expand on what I’ve got now.  I’m really not that concerned, as he has the entire apartment to roam whenever I’m home and awake.. and even when he is free range, he usually hangs out in the bathroom (I don’t lock him in there, he loves the bathroom for whatever reason) or sits with me asking for pets.  He’s large, but luckily he’s also a rather lazy bun. .

Either way, it’s definitely been a learning experience.  I adopted him sight unseen (he was going to be dumped at the Animal Shelter, which has a bad reputation of euthanizing healthy, friendly, adoptable animals), and was told I was receiving a Holland Lop.  Instead of a 4lb tiny bun.. I was surprised with this big boy.  So all the research and planning I did to have appropriate stuff for a Holland Lop all went out the window.

Oh yeah, of course I knew you were just giving me more info.  I really appreciate it!  I don’t know what I would’ve done without this board.

                              Love it.

If you have any more grids then maybe you could build up instead of out. You could even make the top of the crate a shelf if you want the cage to go that high.

Also to give him even more space you could try and detach the door of the crate so it is not in the way.
