Young bunny lost her partner

Originally, I had two M/F bonded pairs; Carrots (4 years) and Norman (1 year), and Wafel (2 years) and Juneau (8 months).  Yesterday, Wafel lost his battle to a twisted kidney that we did everything in our power to fix.  He went into shock after a vet gave him too much fluid.  I am so, so devastated about his loss, but I am equally worried about his partner, Juneau.  They had only been together a few months, but he really helped her come out of her shell as she is a very flighty little Nethie.  In the last couple of days, she hasn’t been doing much of anything.  I made sure she was eating and drinking, but instead of coming out and binkying around like the crazy bun she is, she stayed hunkered under her doll bed, clearly mourning.  I don’t want to rush into getting another bunny, as I’m not replacing Wafel.  However, since Juneau is so young, I think another would be the best option.  How long should I wait?

I have tried time and time again to bond all the bunnies in a group, but Carrots absolutely hates Juneau and constantly went after her.  While I could have stuck it out, I felt that it would be damaging to Juneau as she’s nervous and shy as it is.  So making a trio is really not an option as it was in the past when I had a M/M/F.

I’m sorry, that is very sad. I was in a similar situation. Merlin died, and Guin was left alone and sad. I also have 2 M/F pairs. So I was left witht he choice of 1 pair and 1 single bun, a trio, or adope a new male for Guinivere. I tried the trio. Didn’t work. They have been livingnext to eachother and get along through the fence, but Avalon doesnt’ like Guin. Guin and Morgana coudl be a good match, but Avalon is not interested in the least, and shows aggressive posturing towards her. So a trio was out of the question. Guinwas sad for about a month. She stopped binking, stopped running upt o me for greetings, stopped showing all signs of bunny joy. It was very sad. Rabbits do mourn. After a month, she started to cheer up, and I adopted a new pal for her. I wanted to wait untill she ws in a happier frame of mind, before introducing a pal. I don’t know if either method works just as well, but I waited untill I started seeing her act happy again. I adopted Lancelot. He as amazingly calm, easy going, chill. I thought it would be an easy match. Guin disagreed. I was VERY suprised at her reaction. She attacked him immediately. COnsidering that her and Merlin tok 1 week to become snuggly, and the other pair took 2 weeks to become snuggly, I didn’t expect Guin to react that way. It took 8 months to get them fuly bonded. Today, they are the snuggliest pair of bunnies EVER. They absolutely adore eachother, and Guin is happier than I can ever remember. While your bunny is mourning, give her lots of love and support. She might ignore you at first, but she will come around and appreciate yoru affection. Once she starts showing happiness again, I would get her another pal.
