In planning for Jackson, I erected the NIC cubes around the desk space where we have all our Internet and modem/phone cords. ( Boy didn’t I think I was clever)

Jackson got around the NIC cube barrier somehow today and nibbled the cords to all the phone/internet hookups. How he got around, I willl never know, but I just discovered the carnage.

So, tomorrow I go off on an expedition to replace ALOT of cords and hopefully get power and service back to my phones and internet ( thank god for the neighbor who has an unprotected wi-fi)

You’d think after my experiences with Coco that I would have learned to wrap, wrap and double wrap cords.

What a sneaky destructo bun!  Very determined indeed.  Let us know what ends up finally working for you.  Does he chew through corregated covers?

Yeah Jen – You’d have thought that I would have been smarter – But I took the easy way out and erected a NIC cube barrier – thinking, “Man I really don’t want to have to go and cover ALL of those cords. A cube will do the trick!”

Until my daughter nudged the cube with a chair…and Jackson saw a tiny opening and I found him sitting amidst many chewed cords inside the Cube.
            Totally my fault.

For this go, I am getting better though – threading the cords through the black plastic tubing. ALSO, I figured out that you can buy really nice thick clear tubing in the plumbing section – It was 45 cents a foot. I used a utility knife to slice it longways and Voila – I can fit up to three internet cords inside a VERY thick tube. In the end, the tubing was cheaper than the “cord covers”. I’ve also occasionally found the cord covering at IKEA too – for cheap, but the tubing is a bit less flexible.

So now everything in my daughters room has been covered. And the NIC Cube has been zip tied into place so it can’t get nudged again….

OH yi.   That sounds expensive.     I forgot I had to splice the little tv cord and was going to take it to the pawn shop then I saw that and thought they probably won’t buy it from me like that.  OH well.

Yep many spliced things in Cottons hey day.  A few replaced too.

Hopefully this time it will  hold up.

I was at Costco the other day and they had a cord holder for sale for wrapping all your computer cords together in one place. I looked long and hard at it. Didn’t buy it, because I’m “smart” too and feel a false sense of security with my NIC covered computer space.

                might go back for it.

Cord tubes are still the best.

And cages with 4″ thick cement walls, a moat, and maybe a dragon next to it….

Who are you kidding Pam? These rabbits would shoo away the dragon, or a the very least get them to help them over the moat to nibble the delicious cords.

It was a good lesson for me. I was resting on my “I have already house trained ONE rabbit – I know it all” attitude, I’ll just go the east route and NIC Cube it…and BAM. A Saturday spent replacing cords and re-hooking up the entire technology configuration of the household in eight billion degree heat with no A/C ( although both rabbits have fans and frozen water bottles/frozen chunks of mango)

I’ve said it before. If they were bigger, I suspect rabbits would have united and over thrown humanity.

Oh don’t kid yourself. They are definitely working on taking over. One binky at a time, they are taking control of us…

My little gizmo doesn’t seem to have any intrest in the cords, hopefully it stays that way.

he did want to go under and behind the tv stand, i’ve blocked it off with a pillow and blankets stuffed under it so there are no fun places to hide.

i have found that the easiest way to make gizmo not go somewhere is to pretend he’s allowed.

for the first 2 weeks we had him he loved to hide under the coffee table or couch, to new bun parents horror we always tried to get him out (our couch has a recliner on either end and we are scared of all the moving parts) now that we have just gotten into the habit of checking underneath before moving the seat he is nowhere close to it.

Oh Steph – Please use my experiences and quite literally hundreds of dollars in replacement cords! COVER THE CORDS!

Every time – and I do mean Every time I have thought “Oh Coco wouldn’t chew THAT”…NOMNOMNOMN – cord is gone.

Ipod cords, earphones, camera cords, the digital tv cord she DUG out of the wall…. And Jackson took down the entire VOIP phone and wireless Internet configuration in about 7 minutes.

Christmas Morning, Child opened laptop….Rabbit had chewed through laptop cord before end of Day. I was online ordering replacement cords. Someone wise here shared that cords look like Roots – and roots need to be cleared for easy escape. The rabbit thinks they are being helpful…Human goes nuts running around the city finding cords that cost between 20 and 150 bucks to replace!

Blankets and pillows only say to Coco = “Hey, shes trying to keep me out of there, therefore I will triple my efforts to get back there – And I will chew holes through those pillows and blankets to do that”

Not to mention the holes in skirts, shirts, pillowcases, and, curtains and towels that I have been foolish enough to leave down at nibble-site.

The 20 bucks you spend on cord covers will save you SO much time and effort later, I Promise!

Well, if it makes you feel any better – the majority of the tips from the “House Proofing Section” were based on personal experience. You can see photos of my shoes, jeans, and pillows along with cords with chew marks. Ah the joys of learning.

the cords are covered! he just never had an interest in them.

we also have a puppy so gizmo mostly just chins everything in the house during his turn for house play.

he is never unsupervised. and when he is not in his bunnycondo he is usually wanting to snuggle.
