I’m not sure about this litter at all. I keep reading that it’s safe to use but then I came across this website:

        http://homepage.mac.com/mattocks/morfz/yesterdaynews.html

Fritz (my lionhead) seems to do really well with it, but if that website is real then I’m thinking of taking it out. Quinn (mini-lop) on the other hand will eat it (I’ve tried with her already) so that’s a no-no. I’m scared.

        What do you guys think??

That article is really old. I remember on the rat forum I went to that this was brought up as a concern as well, but after it was discussed for a bit I think the conclusion was that it was YN is safe. That being said, always look at what you’re putting into the litterbox. It’s just common sense.

I used Yesterday’s News for 6 months, and never found any of the objects this acticle mentioned… Not to say that it is not possible, but I guess you should just take a look when you scoop litter and make sure it is safe. I really like YN when I used it. The only reason I stopped was for price reasons. Here at BB, Binky-Bunny herself pointed me in the right direction to OSH which carries wood stove pellets @ $6 per 40lb bag, as opposed to…how much is YN now?

Other than the price, YN was great in my opinion!

The bag I have is about the size of a jumbo bag of dog food and cost around $17 at Petsmart. I’ve had the bag for around a month and it’s still full so it goes a long way.

I don’t know about the metal pieces but when looking up close, I did find blue plastic pieces. They’re pretty small. Because of that, I don’t use it with Quinn because she will nom it til she explodes.

I’m having a really hard time with bedding in general. We only have Carefresh around here, and at $20-25 per large bag, I swear I’ll go broke. Does anyone know of a good website to get the bedding and litter from? I think that’s my only option at the moment. The only thing that stinks is not being able to see the stuff close up

I’ve used YN for 4.5 yrs and have never had any problems. I usually scoop it out by hand so I would know if I got something bad.

someone gave me a bag of yesterdays news.  It looked like pelleted food I was concerned i would accidentally put YN in the food dish and pellets in the litterbox.  lmao.   No I am not that bad.

I gave the bag to a friend who has a bun and it tight on $.  I even bought it food and am taking some hay for it.  I wanted to take it home while this cold weather is going on  30% in good ol sunny florida but when we went to pick it up I couldn’t find her.

They had taken her in the  house for the night.   I feel bad for her. I can’t take on any more buns though she is an unspayed female.  There goes the marking and fighting.

They are very open to proper care though. Thats good.  I took them a harness so she can get out for exercise.  They have many children about 10  or nearly so. The older ones and the Mom go together when they take her for a walk.  They just love her.

they have big fluffy comforter to cover her cage with.  I just wish they coudl put her in the house permanent.  But small house and really young children as well as teens  nope not good for her there either.

I bought a bag of YN recently, but haven’t opened it yet. Thought I’d try it later and see if she likes it.

I had the same issue with CareFresh, which I’ve been sticking with, and the price. Well, when the bag of the white (used for more sensitive skin and allergies, mine that is) came out in huge, uncut clumps, I returned the big bag to Petsmart. They actually took it back without question, let me buy the basic bag that’s about 3-5 ozs. more in the bag for less $, and made up the difference. So I’d say try switching to the original, uncolored version. It’s kind of tan.

Just before that, my vet suggested I go to the small pet store where I’d found Sammy and ask her to order me the large size at a discount. She had a big bag in the back that CareFresh sells to retailers only, but is the same basic stuff, and sold it to me for a few dollars less. So you could ask a small petstore if they’d sell you a larger amount on order for a discount. For me, it’s closer (1 block away) to get it at PetSmart and I don’t spend it in gas.

You know I bet Yn would not stick to my buns hind ends when they hop out of the litterbox.  Sounds like worth a try.
