        Hello everyone! My bunny Trixie has a yellowish tint to the area around her butt. Does anyone know what this could be? It has been like this for a few months now but I’ve become more concerned recently because it looks like the hair on her back is thinning out. Could these two things be connected? She is shedding her coat really bad right now so I was thinking that could be the reason for the hair thinning out on her back but I’m not sure. Do y’all think I should bring her to the vet for this? I’m going to attach a picture below of the area around her tail and her back. Thank you for any help and advice!

          Is she young? Sometimes when baby rabbits molt and start growing in their “adult” coats, they have new colorations. It could also be staining from sitting in the litter box, it happens. She could also have urine staining her fur.

              @Louiethebunny she is a little over 1 year.

              Maybe it is from the litter box. Do you know if there is anything I can do to prevent this? Also, her tail hair sometimes falls out in hunks. Is that normal during the time when they molt?

              Thank you for your help!

              It does look like she’s blowing her coat. The important thing to check when there’s fur loss is how the skin looks underneath. It should be smooth, soft and even.

              If her skin looks and feels fine, this is very likey just a molt. Some buns shed in patches, and they look pretty awful while it’s going on. The guard hair and the wool have different colors on buns, so during a molt the bun can temporarily “change” fur color. I had one bun who became a wonderful deep peach color when he shed his guard hairs. When the guard hairs came back in, he was his normal color again 🙂

              If the skin looks irritated, or very dry, if there is lots of “dandruff” (some dandruff is normal during a shed though), scabs (often skin-colored, so they are easier felt than seen), sth is wrong.

              So check the skin and if it seems fine, no other action than brushing is needed. Brushing duri g a shed is important though, you don’t want the bun to ingest too much hair when she cleans herself.

                  @Liv
                  : staining from hay in the litter box can be prevented by adding a litter screen or moving her hay around. My bun pees in the back of the box, so I put the hay in the front and litter in the back. you can also hang hay over the litter box In a hay bag or hay rack so she isn’t sitting in it.
