I did it! Yay me! I was thinking that i may have to take Hammer to the vet to get his nails done, im kinda squimish (spelling? word? lol) with that stuff. I cant do my dogs nails and they go to the vet. But I did the front ones yesterday and the back ones today. Hammer did manage to wiggle out of his burrito a few times though. Every now and then when i cut one he would jump a tiny bit.. like a twitch (normal?). But sometimes after the twitch he came out of his trance and got out of my burrito, which i actually thought was a pretty impressive one at first. Is that normal or do i need bun burrito practice? Covering his eyes really helped though.

Well i thought this was a really good time to look at his teeth, just so i know what they look like, where they are etc. Well the front.. i saw that of course. But the back ones are.. like non-existent lol.  I tried to move his cheek but i think im doing something wrong. How do you check the back ones? Or can you?

The poor baby had me teary eyed, at one point he was chattering his teeth when i was putting him back into a trance! Like we do when we are cold. I just felt so bad for my poor baby and felt like the worst mommy ever lol. But i sucked back my tears and calmed him down, toke a break. Today was the most vocal he was even gotten. When i called it break time and let him go, he was breathing really loud, grunting, and bit me when i tried to pet him lol. Needles to say he got himself a bun cookie then. Anybunny know anything about the chattering? I was assuming it was just sheer terror.

I must say though, his face full on in a trance is just about the cutest thing ever, priceless lol.

Usually tooth chattering is like a purr, could have been out of anxiety though? Can you video it and post it? We’d be able to tell you then…
They can jump out of trance thats normal!

Great job getting the nails done!! That’s fantastic!

Ill see if i can get a video, but he was SO worked up that i dont know if ill be able to do it to him again lol. If heard his purr though, poor of a grid, and im sure its a purr cause he does it when he is completely flopped and being petted. Or after a few bunny 500s and a few hundred binkies lol.

It can be difficult to see the back teeth, especially without some help to hold the bun still.  And it usually takes something to hold the cheek out.  When I got my new bunny, my vet had me hold her and he used a narrow tongue depresser to tent one cheek out…looked at teeth on that side, and then did the same on the other.  And while you can get a glimpse of them…I would not say that he was able to closely inspect the teeth…he was just able to see that they appeared normal (not sharp or irregular growth)

from what I know the bun is usually put under for the back teeth   They are very difficult to see. Yes my buns jumps sometimes too when clipping their nails.  But we go on with it.

OHhh he is trying to make you feel guilty isn’t he.

Congrats Bunnyliz!  It sounds like you may not have the burrito snug enough, but some bunnies will slither right out of them as if they were a greased pig, so try to hold them a little snugger. Katnip is right about the teeth and the chattering thing is fright as well as the screaming. Most bunnies do jerk their foot when trimmed, especially if you trim close to the quick of the nail. Others just plain do not like ther paw being held either. That’s great you were able to stick it out and do it. With practice it will get better and you’ll both be calmer. If you were pretty nervous this time, remember that rabbits can really pick up on your emotions and reflect that same feeling you are having and so if you were really nervous, which is totally natural until you are used to it, he was probably both nervous and scared. Next time you might just want to do two paws like the front or back and save the other two for the next day as you don’t want him to be too traumatized. I’ve used Rescue Rememdy either orally and I’ve heard a good rub of it on the ear helps to calm the animal down before something stressful like a nail trim.
