  Hi everyone,
  
  I got a neutered holland lop, Lucky, a month ago and introduced him to my unaltered Dutchboy, Bun. Bun is about 4 years old, and he’s a total sweetheart. He’s in love with Lucky. He tries (and is sometimes successful) with grooming Lucky and every once in a while he’ll try to mount him, but other than that it’s going well. For the most part, Lucky allows (demands) Bun to groom him and there’s been little to no squabbling between them. BUT! Lucky is scaring the beejezus out of my little Bun. Lucky isn’t biting him, but every time Bun gets near him, Lucky turns (not lunges) and Bun skips away. They have run time together and they eat with each other and I’m switching cages nightly— any suggestions on how to make Bun less frightened of this rather large lop? Lol. I suppose things are going well, but I feel bad that Bun runs away. Lucky is a bit of a bully, but I’m hoping that a decrease in his testosterone levels will help that.

  When Lucky turns, are his ears down and/or does his tail go up. He might be giving off some aggressive signals that Bun is picking up. But if he is just turning normally and calmly, then you might try bonding in a more enclosed area where you can pet and comfort Bun when Lucky scares him. Also, when they are near each other to pet Bun, and if Lucky insist on being pet too then pet them both. This might help Bun associate “relaxation” with being near Lucky.

  Lucky’s ears are down and relaxed and his tail isnt up. To my eye’s, Lucky appears to be turning to Bun calmly– but Bun doesn’t see it that way. Lucky is a bit skiddish still, so petting him is definitely done on his own terms. Lucky is getting smarter now though; he flops near Bun and waits for Bun to get close enough to groom him. And then Lucky turns to him and the moment is broken. haha. I have hope though that this bonding will happen eventually.

  If one is grooming the other that is a very positive sign. Could you try putting the two side by side and giving them comforting pets? That way they can be sitting next to each other without either of them feeling threatened.
