        Hello, all!

My new lionhead, Sybill, yanks on her water bottle as she drinks. She licks it, like they’re supposed to, but every couple of seconds she grabs it with her teeth and yanks it. This rattles its casing as well as her whole cage, and it’s quite loud (loud enough to disturb conversations in the next room). I can muffle it with a blanket or towel, but then it’s harder to check on how much water she has. She is definitely drinking enough, and getting enough out of it- how can I stop her doing this? I’m also worried she’ll damage the bottle or casing.

Sounds like frustration. Maybe the water is not coming out as fast as she’d like. I would offer her a ceramic crock bowl of water as well. It’s much more natural and most bunnies prefer a bowl over a bottle.

I agree that it’s probably frustration with the bottle. My buck did that when he had a bottle when I first got him. I was worried he was going to hurt his teeth. He is much happier drinking from a bowl. The bowl is much easier to clean as well!!

I tried a bowl to begin with, but she would /constantly/ throw bedding in it. I mean, within an hour or so.

              Any other suggestions?

I would still try a bowl. Just change it twice a day. If it’s just a bit of bedding going in it, it won’t harm her if it’s in the water

Also, is there bedding all over her cage? Is that why she’s getting it in the water? Bedding should be put just in the litter box to encourage litter habits. If it’s all over her cage it’ll teach her she can go to the bathroom anywhere. If her litter box is near her water, could you move one or the other so they aren’t near each other?

It’s all over her cage because she doesn’t give a rip about where she pees and at least the bedding absorbs the urine…

My next post will be on litter training…
