Hey y’all, I want to distance myself from pet stores because I really am sickened by the things that happen behind the scenes in pet stores… concerning the way the animals in the pet stores get there. (Breeding mills) Really, I only buy hay from pet stores. I like to buy toys in bulk from small shops on Etsy, and I usually buy my supplements from the vet or Chewy. Anyway, if y’all buy hay online, where from? Or should I try buying hay from local feed stores? (Though I doubt the quality would be very good because I don’t imagine hay that’s processed for horses is similar to hay for bunnies.)

I believe you can buy directly from Small Pet Select and Rabbit Hole Hay. You can buy large boxes (40lb+) from them.

            Hello!

I normally order Small Pet Select Value Hay through Amazon. It’s a 10lb box for around $20 (free shipping with Prime) and has been consistently good quality.

They also always have a cute postcard tucked inside with some sort of adorable photo of a small furry critter (buns, piggies, rats, etc). One time, the bun pictured was the exact baby version of one of ours! So, its a small touch, but its always fun to see what card is in the box each time.

            Hope that helps!

              Hi Bruno’s mama!!! 😃

I buy hay directly from a farm, but I’m not in the USA. In the USA, horse hay is often mixed with alfalfa, sometimes a 50/50% ratio. That is obviously not good for adult buns. Horse hay that doesnt have alfalfa is generally good for rabbits though, rabbits and horses can eat the same grass hays (alfalfa isnt a grass, its a legume).

I buy timothy by the bale from a local feed shop. The quality is excellent and my buns love it.  And you can’t beat the price either.

I recommend checking out your local feed shops and see what they have. Any grass hay is suitable for buns.
