So I am going to be making a rabbit condo in about a month or two and I was wondering if I should use NIC grids or an xpen. I would like to use a xpen so the condo is more sturdy, but I have herd its a real pain to put the pen back together after you take it apart. I would just use NIC grids but I don’t think I will have enough.

        – so is it really that hard to put an xpen back together

        – Do you think I should use NIC grids or an xpen.

Yes, it is that hard to put an xpen back together. I would suggest you not take it apart. You could get a pen and just make some shelving for the inside using NIC grids and dowels, it doesn’t have to be a full condo.

Xpens are connected together with metal type hinges/clips that once you pry them apart- they are never going to be the same.  I did have 2 xpens that I bought and configured into a pen with 2 doors and divider because I was bonding Griffin and Schroeder at the time.  I like the xpen panels because they are so sturdy- but yet they are really heavy too, heavier than using NIC grids I think.  One of these days I am going to get around to adding a shelf to the boys pen and make it more of a condo than a pen.

do you mean by a new pen?
I would do that but then they wouldn’t have much space because the condo is at our trailer house and the rooms are extremely tiny and I only have enough room for 2×4 and maybe not even that big, so if it was a condo they would have 2 or 3 shelves that are 2×4 so that they have more room.

We have a store near us that sells those clips in the small animal section, I don’t know what they are for but they are the same clips. Is the only hard part about taking one apart the clips?

No, I thought you already had an xpen. I didn’t realize this was for the other house. In that case, I’d just make a simple NIC condo then.

But I don’t have enough grids…. I guess I could buy more, but I am already paying 200+ for the outside pen.

You could just fasten an xpen into a 2×4 rectangle and tuck the other panels behind. Then make some shelves with grids. It’s temporary, so I would try to do it simple. Taking it apart would be a big process.

I will see if that works. Thanks!
