He hasn’t been inside long, right? Thats why there are poos around, he’ still making it his. I’m a fan of free range, but you have to make sure if he’s going to be loose in your room that you remember to close your door, and do tons of bunnyproofing.

well my door is always closed anyways to keep the cold air in because he has his winter coat still. their is a little more poos then normal because i just redid my room so i redid his pen to. how long dose it take for him to realize that this is his home and stop pooing out side of his litter box.

It varies with each rabbit I’d think. Moose got over his territorial poos after about an hour lol. Monkey still does them with Moose around.

do you have to put on outlet covers?

I don’t use outlet covers – my bun also does not mess with anything or go near outlets (outlets are in hardwood floor sections, and he runs past them fast to get to carpeting). So it’s really up to your judgement. If you have a pretty nosy bunny, I would do it just to be safe.

You should definitely be letting him out for at least a few hours a day to get exercise – bunnies need a lot of room to stretch their legs even if they have big cages. To bunny proof, start by covering or blocking off access to any cords. Then I would block off access to any books or magazines, because these are irresistible. Otherwise, as long as you’ll be supervising initially, you may not need to do much else. You might decide later that you want to block access under your bed, or that a particular piece of furniture is just too yummy, but you can figure that out as you go. Cords are the most important because even if you’re supervising, it just takes one bite to get through a cord and electrocute your bun – and bunnies move fast and sneak up on things before you even notice!

I think BB posted a great bunny proofing guide in the info section above.

I forgot to address pooping outside the litter box – he was just neutered recently, correct? It can take 6 weeks for the hormones to die down and in that time, he will probably still be inclined to mark his territory. I think within the next month he should improve dramatically if you keep picking up his poos and throwing them in his litter box.

ok. were do you find the things to cover your cords?

At a hardware store you can find flexible plastic piping that’s used for plumbing. They can cut whatever length you want, then just use scissors to cut down the length of the tube to make a slit to fit the cord in.

For an area with lots of cords like a computer or tv, it can work to build an NIC fence around the area.

You can let him under your bed if you want. Some bunnies tend to hide out there and poop, so it’s really up to his personality whether you let him under there or not. You can probably block it off easily with some pieces of wood or NIC grids.

Make sure you block off any books or magazines – bunnies will always go for those and you may not want teeth marks in them.
