Ok, I’ve looked through the galleries and found some cool ideas, but I’m not sure if I can pull them off.  Right now Lucy has a fairly decent sized x-pen, I’d say 4×4 I think.  I can’t remember the exact dimensions, and frankly I’m a little too lazy to get up and look    I like to let her out, or at least let her door open all day so she has the option of hanging out or in, and typically she does her own thing.  I’d like to make it a little more fun inside her pen though, as I’m noticing some odd behaviours.  I keep her pen in a square, by an air vent.  She loves the cool air, it comes out ever so gently so if she’s warm, she can chill almost right next to it.  Loves it.  I keep an old quilt underneath most of the pen because we have hard wood floors, and for some reason she likes the quilt.  However, I’m finding her digging into the quilt a lot.  At first I thought she wanted it pulled back or something, because she was biting at it as well.  I moved it back, and no, I offended her by doing that.  I’d like to maybe make a diggy box or something to maybe entertain her more?  Maybe she needs more stimulation?  I just worry about anything too big because when she gets angry she throws her “furniture” around.  I had a cardboard box as a house for her for a while and she would toss is across the room when she got angry   Any ideas?

It sounds like she’s digging the quilt and throwing the cardboard house simply because it’s fun, not because she’s angry. If you don’t mind her digging the quilt, I would just let her go at it. My bunnies aren’t really diggers, but if I put a blanket down on the floor both will dig like crazy – must be something about blankets that’s irresistible. I think a cardboard house is also a great idea, especially if it has cardboard floors so she can dig at the cardboard.

I just made a cardboard house and put half of the quilt under and half hardwood floor. She loves it!

Jersey too. She used to dig, push & nibble alot as a single bun. Especially in a bean bag. Rumball does a little, he mostly scrabbles at them. It a harmless activity for them as long as they’re not ingesting the fabric. I reckon it’s a bit like burrowing. Dig, push dirt, nibble thru roots etc.

Have you thought of getting an area rug to fit under the pen instead of the quilt? You could still use the quilt in the pen folded up somewhere, but she might enjoy having different textures in her space. And cleaning would be easier, you could just move the pen and vacuum.
