would you trust these people with your rabbit?

 so in march (spring break) my mom and sister and i go over seas every year to visit family and stuff. and this year may be our last year going since there is a lot of family fighting going on and stuff over thereee. also my mom’s mom died a few years ago so we always go and visit her grave and stuff (its on this mountain thing and it has a nice scenery… for a cemetery. also my mom’s dad died too but that was a long time ago) and my mom wants me to go this year since you know, it will be our last year going. but i am sort of worried about my rabbit and all. my dad cant do half of the work needed to do – trust me he is NOT an animal person and he barely does the things needed for the dogs. 

but i did find this place where they board rabbits, and it is also a rescue! but im afraid they keep their rabbits on wire cages? which i guess is okay? since i’ll only be gone for 5-6 days. here is their web page on boarding rabbits:

it sounds pretty nice. they give their rabbits the same pellets i give my rabbit. feel free to look around the website too. PS. this is not the rescue i adopted from; although it was one of my options. would you trust them with your rabbit? i know march is a long time away buut i just want to prepare and stuff…

I actually find it odd that they don’t require you to supply your own food. Obviously I understand the need for fresh veggies (though again, these should only be ones that you feed), but what if you weren’t feeding oxbow and they just started feeding that? Big no-no. I would be worried that they might give your rabbit something he isn’t used to eating.

What makes you think they are on wire? I couldn’t find anything on the website, but if you have actually seen the place than obviously you would know. 5-6 days could certainly cause problems, and foot abscesses are not easy to treat, though if there was at least a rest area so he could get off the wire that might be okay. Might. It also might be so uncomfortable for him that he won’t eat (enough) depending on where his hay is located.

Could the rescue you adopted him from watch him? March is a lot closer than you think! February is a short month and it will be here in a blink of an eye!

i will ask! he was in a foster home where he was on wire too. (with a rest mat i think) and i dont KNOW that they keep their rabbits on wire but i saw some pictures where their rabbits are on wire – but im just assuming. and yeah i was thinking about that too…

Those aren’t exactly wires, more like a plastic weave which I think is used if the litter is in a pan underneath and everything kind of falls through. You could always get dimensions of their cages and cut a piece of coroplast slightly smaller, or even cardboard, and put your litter pan on top of it since your bunny is trained. That would cover the holes.

Otherwise it looks like a good idea to me. If you do like them, it’s great to have someone reliable to help out over the next few years as these occasions come up. I felt that way about my vet’s boarding once I tried it.

I actually have a good friend of mine who use to breed rabbits years ago watch my rabbits. She does an excellent job. Try to maybe find someone who knows about rabbits to take care of your rabbit for you!

I agree that those plastic covers would offer protection. Go check it out and talk to them about your concerns. I think though they sound like a great option. I”ve boarded my bunnies before with the house rabbit society and they took such good care of them. I mean a rabbit rescue not only loves bunnies but the money they receive for boarding goes to a good cause too. 🙂

I would probably trust them. It seems clean, friendly, and that they have much experience with taking care of rabbits.
